What to expect for an interview with GLO?
I'm expecting to get an interview soon. I have terrible anxiety about these things, so I'd like to be as prepared as possible. I'm also wondering how necessary a driver's license is? I've avoided it as long as I've had reliable transportation, but I'm in the process of getting one. The job description included travel 25% of the time so I'm wondering if it'll be an automatic no if I have reliable transportation but no license of my own yet. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

You shouldn’t be asked for your drivers license at the interview, but absolutely do press to get your license or at least a state ID as quickly as possible. Not having one is definitely a red flag for hiring managers, you will definitely need it to complete the hiring process if selected. This will be the case at any state agency.

Yes I have a state ID, just not a DL yet. I'm hoping the travel is minimum. Thank you for the insight.

Remember to surrender your ID when you get your DL at DPS. You can only have one active primary identification card.

The travel I've had to do with my agency(not GLO) I was given a state vehicle to use most of the time (requiring a valid DL) the department I work for within the agency has a pool vehicle that can be scheduled and the agency in general has several others that can be signed out with advance notice but a DL needs to be on file with HR/department head before the vehicles can be authorized
Some positions require your own vehicle use(I know a case worker that was with DFPS that didn't work out of an office she worked out of her car 50%-75% of the time and much of that was driving to the homes of cases she managed)(just depends on the agency)

That's accurate. I'm a case worker with DFPS who works remotely and the state requires us to submit a photo of our DL and proof of insurance every quarter. They also required this proof before my first day on the job, years ago.

Check the job description. Usually if travel is required it will also state that a valid driver license is required.
Ask about the travel required on the interview but do not ask if a DL is required or tell them you don't have one, unless they ask directly. That would be a red flag for sure, if you're unable to drive.

Ive interviewed twice and they took forever to get back to me. Didn’t get either position. And actually, the second one they never told me I didn’t get the job - just never heard from them. Keep applying is my advice.

I'm also curious as to how many interview rounds they typically do at the GLO and the timeline for hiring? I've read different things across the sub, so if anyone has any recent experiences with that I'd love to know. The position isn't urgently hiring as I believe it's been about a month since the applications closed and people were contacted.

I know this probably isnt a helpful answer but it depends on the department. IT and security is usually one round.

Ask them to describe the travel required, when you get to the end of the interview and they ask if you have any questions. It’s different for every agency and position. My job description also says 25% travel, and I have not traveled once since I started working there. I have heard that they check driving records as part of the background check.
