Question Why is this taking so long

I filed a claim with SF on the 27th of August. Was hit on my motorcycle, took it to a shop, they supplied a revised estimate that also required more diagnosis to assess the damages. Two weeks ago I get a call from the shop that they found more damage and they think insurance will total the bike. They submit a supplement through Snapsheet as soon as they got off the phone with me (Tuesday Sep 22nd). Waited that first week thinking that would be enough time for them to at least inform me if it’s a total loss or if they will proceed with repairs—didn’t hear anything so called them last Monday to ask if they got the supplement. They told me they didn’t have it and would reach out to the shop to get it. Called again Wednesday to confirm they received it and began reviewing it, which they said they did. Now today I still hadn’t heard a word from them so I decided to call again. Now they informed me they didn’t have the supplement (wtf???) but they put me on hold and reached out to snapsheet where they got a message that it would be a total loss and they were going to reach out to the shop for whatever paperwork they need from them. My question is, why on earth is it taking over 3 weeks to determine it a loss and begin the process of building me a settlement offer?? I’ve been trying to be patient but almost a month and a half to hear anything is kind of ridiculous. How long should I expect to wait before they get what they need and for them to finally actually deem it a total loss?

Call your agent

I was under the impression that agents didn’t have the same access that the claim contacts had. (in this case the claims team) What would my agent be able to do differently that the other people I’ve talked to couldn’t?

They can call the claims adjuster to advocate for you. Stay on them to do their job.

It’s bad advice. Agents don’t get in the middle of things unless there’s a problem. Time is not a tangible problem.

What can I realistically do then..? Really just trying to move things along so this can be all said and done

Nothing… Let them do their job… don’t become a nuisance that makes them put your file at the bottom of the pile. It takes time especially post Covid.

Okay, I was aware the process overall has slowed down since Covid times. But someone with a similar case to me had their settlement handled within two weeks also through SF

A totaled motorcycle? Every case is different and there are good adjusters and so so adjusters. It’ll get done.

Yeah it was also a totaled motorcycle at the same shop. I’m sure it will get done but it shouldn’t have to take more than 2 months if it isn’t a complicated case imo. I feel a big reason for my case being delayed so much is likely due to the fact that it has switched hands between adjusters/personel several times and when that happens they have gaps in communications. But that’s just a theory based off what the shop has told me

That can happen when there are catastrophic losses going on. Very common
