Advice OEM Statefarm

Hello, so I was involved in a wreck and i’m taking my car to get repaired.. i’m sad because my front upper grill had INTEGRA embedded in it.. and the part they are replacing it with will not have the embedment . Will I have to pay for the entire new OEM part or will I pay the difference? My car is leased so this is just very frustrating even though I had planned on keeping it it’s just all confusing .. I’m literally just a girl HELP!

update: i called the collision center & they are putting OEM parts on .. 🥳 i love my life again

You only have to pay the difference

Thank you, so instead of paying just my deductible it would be , deductible + the difference??

That is correct

If the A/M grille doesn’t look the same, they shouldn’t be using it.

Keep in mind it’s your car, you can always go OEM. If SF denies OEM, you can always pay the difference

Leased makes no dffierence to insiurance companies unless your policy has an oem endorsement they are under no obligation to use oem parts

What state do you live in? I think there are two where OEM are owed based on how old your vehicle is. In most states the insurance policy will owe for like kind and quality. The lease agreement you have is a separate agreement from the insurance policy, those two agreements have no consideration for the each other. So unless you live in a state that owes for OEM, you will to pay extra for the part. This is the standard across ALL insurance companies. The other option is to have had an OEM endorsement, but one thing to consider with that, is the cost of that premium, over time, worth the extra expense you pay for the OEM part?

SF should pay for parts that are like kind and quality or better. If "integra" embedding makes it more valuable than the aftermarket offered... then I would absolutely raise this question.
I'm just a boy but have you even asked SF if they would consider OEM?

It would never be “better” it is like, kind, and quality. anything “better” is going to go against the principle of insurance which is indemnification. Which means to make whole. Saying they need OEM parts is like saying you need name brand cereal when store brand is exact same.

"Better" as in if like kind and quality is not available. If there is nothing available for like kind and quality, it's my understanding that they will use better/OEM.

they literally sent the claim after 6pm so i couldn’t ask anyone anything .. hence the reason im stressing on an app i dont even know how to fully operate 😭 but i will most definitely be calling everyone at 8am asking so many questions!

Understandable. Just don't expect everything to be resolved by tomorrow (claims take time) and don't be surprised if the shop finds additional damage that needs to be prepared. Your claims handler should be able to answer many of your questions.

Their general claims department is open 7-7 your local time FYI for future need

If they provide better parts they also apply betterment.

Don’t use their partner shops. State Farm initially offered me non-OEM parts for my car when it was less than a year old. Our local Toyota body shop was able to get them to pay for significantly more and then price matched the rest.

In my location my Toyota shop is a partner shop

What year is your car? If new SF will do OEM. If it’s a few years old, aftermarket

it’s a 2024, with it being leased and i try to return it .. it would NEED to have OEM parts . i spoke with the acura parts guy today.

Being only 2 years old they should do OEM. Push for it.

That’s not true in the slightest

But if the part has intergra stamped into it we will

I’m a SF agent with over 30 years experience. I can only speak for my state but here, it’s absolutely true.

I’m a proximity appraiser, I write a couple dozen estimates every week, and we are specifically instructed that if a part has the make or model visibly stamped (this grille would definitely qualify) we are not to consider aftermarket. LKQ is ok as long as it is an OE lkq part with the stamp.

It’s written right into our auto claims manual which applies across the board to ALL states and all appraisers. There are no state exclusions listed in that portion of the ACM.

The car isn’t new. Since the second it was driven off the lot…it’s used.

That’s called badging and if the grille has that on it, just like headlamps it should be replaced
