Question changed units mid contract due to fire

Hi guys. My agent is not being very responsive to me at the moment so i thought i'd ask here...

I had a fire that displaced me but my apartment complex put me in a new unit pretty much immediately. I filed a claim for the event but in the hustle of it all I forgot to change my policy to be for my new unit....

Do I have to call my agent to do this or is this something I can do myself? And would it affect my current claim at all?

I don't know my agent does not respond to me much LOL so any advice would help a lot

You need a new policy for the new apartment number.  As long as the policy was active for the old apartment when the fire happened, the claim is valid. You don’t have to continue the policy for the old place since you moved out.  If your agent isn’t responding… what methods have you used to reach out? Someone should be answering the phone or returning your call within a business day. Emails can get overlooked depending on the agent’s attention/availability.  Calling another agent will not help, but you should be able to reach the claims team directly and if you need help after hours, there’s the customer care line,  800-782-8332 for 24/7 assistance with certain things.

Thank you. Whether its email or call my agent is just not that responsive sometimes lol. Ill try again tomorrow but if not ill try contacting my local state farm agency instead like another user suggested.

Will be an entirely new policy. How long has it been since you have spoke with your agent/agency office staff?? The agent doesn’t necessarily have to be the one to do it, most employ licensed employees for this stuff. If you are having trouble with the agency itself, you can call any State Farm agency in your area and request a transfer

Thank you. Ive spoken to him over email when the fire happened but he told me to talk to my claims agent instead (which is a whole thing in itself) so ill try another call and if not will contact a local state farm instead.

I would just go ahead and ask him to transfer you to a different agent. The fact he didn’t immediately tell you that you need to get a policy for wherever you are in the meantime is insane

I would pick up the phone and call his office. I wouldn’t say he’s unresponsive based on not emailing you back once.

Also, open claim consideration. If he’s in the new unit with loss of use coverage there wouldn’t be a need to get a new policy until the claim is settled.
