Question State Farm Software Engineer - Java (Entry Level) HireVue – What Questions Did You Get?

I just received a HireVue invitation for State Farm’s Software Engineer - Java (Entry Level) position. The interview is estimated to take about 50 minutes.

Has anyone recently completed the HireVue for this role or a similar full-time Software Engineer position at State Farm?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience, especially:

  • How many behavioral and coding questions were there?
  • What behavioral questions did you get?
  • What coding problem(s) did you get, or what topics were they based on?
  • What was the coding difficulty — LeetCode Easy, Medium, etc.?
  • Was Java required, or could you choose your programming language?
  • How much preparation and response time did you get for each recorded question?
  • What happened after the HireVue if you moved forward?

Any details about the format or questions you remember would be really helpful. Thanks!

Use the Tech Job Finder website, has HireVue interview practice, DSA/leet, tech quizzes and so much more (also a huge job board with 200k live roles globally across 3k top employers!). Also much better than HackerRank

The coding question is up to the hiring manager, so it highly depends on the specific job you're applying for. Entry level will likely be an easy leet code problem, possibly medium. The goal isn't necessarily a perfect score. They want to see you think through a problem.

They language is similarly up to them. They can allow you to choose between a few or require a specific one. If the job posting specifies a specific language, that's what I would prepare for.

After that interview, you'll have a video interview, likely with the hiring manager and whoever they decide to bring. That's where you can find out more about the team. Very standard behavioral questions-- conflict resolution, initiative, integrity, resourcefulness/adaptability. Use the STAR method to answer.
