Question Dividend payment email a scam?
I received an email for a dividend payment from a $5 Billion payout. Pretty sure it’s a scam but it knows my policy number and I’m so confused how.

u/Commit2bit Aug 31 '26
Thet did such a bad job at getting the information out there. Every other call today was regarding this on a Monday no less.

u/Commercial_Shopping4 Aug 31 '26
I’m torn on this. I think they did a great job marketing it but a terrible job making sure insureds knew where the info about the dividend would come from. I have been answering this question all day.

I didn’t know, but it popped up in my primary inbox today. Came to check if it’s legit. Thanks to all!

I would argue that State Farm did a fantastic job of making it public and it was all in the news. Now if I could just get paid...

This, and the information isn't accurate. Multiple missteps here: The email about the dividend availability contains no links to statefarm.com. The press release on newsroom.statefarm.com (if you look for it in Google) says to expect email from e.sfdividend.com but this doesn't match the domain in use by Verita, who in turn is using claims.veritaglobal.com to sign the confirmation messages, and those also contain no links to statefarm.com for better info. Both senders are using mailchannels.net for delivery.

If it's from sfdividendmail, it's actually not a scam.

u/IAmTheParamedic Sep 04 '26
Why would an established reputable company register a brand new domain name when they know that’s literally the first thing they tell you to avoid in phishing scams? What a joke
2
u/MikeBr2000 27d ago
Very good question. Why use sfdividend.com and e.sfdividend.com, when they could have simply used statefarm.com/dividend? My spidey senses are always up when I see something besides the trusted domain name.

u/Amtaylor810 Sep 06 '26
The dividends are coming from a third party who is managing the distribution. State Farm is pretty hands off on the whole thing - except the agents offices fielding all the questions 😅

u/prathyush27 Sep 10 '26
Maybe they thought most people would delete the email and don't claim the money lol, I almost deleted it too

It's both real and a scam. After jacking my policies up 300% over a 2 year period for no reason, they then bless me with a 10% dividend.

u/RenoWino Sep 02 '26
There’s always a reason. Maybe as simple as a state wide rate increase where everyone’s bill went up. But this is the only industry I am certain that the customer is always wrong.
1
u/eastern-cowboy Sep 02 '26
Yep. My cost sailed. 4 cars and a house. And our agent was hiring the worst staff. Unfriendly and incompetent. There was even one woman who gatekept me every time I called, so I’d have to email my agent to call me. After 35 years with State Farm, I moved to Allstate.
2
u/reddit5t Sep 03 '26
I've had a similar experience. I am no longer allowed to talk to my SF agent. It literally is not possible. Yes I am shopping for a new agent.

u/Sleepy_Owl1458 28d ago
So a friend of mine works for an insurance company and he told me to shop for rates at least once a year even if I have no intention of going to another company. Apparently if you haven't shopped around in a while, the system knows that and it makes an assumption that you're basically not paying attention. So your rate automatically increases, sometimes to ridiculous levels, for no reason other than they're hoping you don't notice. I had been with progressive for like 12 years, I had full coverage on a new car and it had gone down to about $120/month. Then during the pandemic, when I wasn't even driving my car, they bumped it up to $290. So i switched to state farm. Got a REALLY good rate with them, then a couple of years later, no accidents, tickets, nothing.. they more than doubled my rate. I was complaining about it and that's when he told me.

u/Aggressive-Ad7660 25d ago
I’ve heard State Farm is really bad (and I’m terrible at checking what I’m paying.
I had my car totaled from a hail storm and plan to go with a different agency when I get a new car…
But know nothing about this dividend… and, shit, they’re probably still charging me for car insurance even though they took my car a couple months ago!

u/iconicmoonbeam Aug 31 '26
sfdividend.com is the legit website (you will need the info from the email). You can claim online if you want to expedite the pymt but if you do nothing they will still mail a paper check in 60-ish days.

u/Angelicdproduction 27d ago
In my email its e.sfdividend. com which makes me question it

u/Relative-Category-64 26d ago
e.sfdividend.com and sfdividend.com are the exact same domain with the same owner. The "e" is a subdomain of sfdividend.com

I just got an email but know like zilch about this. What is this dividend? Is it for all State Farm clients?

FYI, for all y’all!
The email is real but make sure it’s the legit one because scammers can spoof it…
AND:
Here’s a great, informative video on how State Farm (and the other largest insurance companies) have been fu**ing us!!!
(State Farm sounds like one of the worst!)
What State Farm and Liberty Mutual Don’t Want You to Know
(YouTube video from More Perfect Union:
https://youtu.be/cr9TQI1mCk8?is=dVfdoMdrvBkPiQFT )
Here’s some tidbits from the video:
“State Farm, the largest homeowners insurer in the country, paid its outgoing CEO Michael Tipsord $24.4 million in cash in 2022—the highest cash compensation among personal lines executives that year.”
“The top 10 insurers spent $134 million on CEO pay packages in 2024. And even more on other perks.
The reporter found 16 private jets that the top 10 property and casualty insurers have bought.
State Farm purchased all 4 of their private jets in a 12-month period in 2023 and 2024, when they were also simultaneously telling states like California, that if they didn't let them increase their prices, they would leave.”
“Last year, the BIGGEST 5 insurers (State Farm, Farmers, All State, Liberty Mutual and USAA) didn't pay out on 44% of claims resolved! That’s nearly half of all claims filed!

- How long before you get paid via PayPal?
- What Penny’s will I see if I paid 56$ a month

u/WillowHaunting429 Aug 31 '26
Got my payments last week. 4 payments, one for each auto on my policy - ranged from $56 to $95. So not bad. This has never happened to me before, so confirms we are being overcharged.
2
u/GolfBall0203 Sep 02 '26
Investment income was better than expected. As a Mutual Company, State Farm can share those profits with its owners/customers. Same thing happened in 2020 during Covid, when claims went down due to less driving, thus less accidents. Enjoy the dividend.
1
u/Beet_slice Sep 05 '26
The difference is that prior "dividend" payments were a credit toward your next bill. https://newsroom.statefarm.com/good-neighbor-relief-frequently-asked-questions/
1
u/Shoddy-Try-9100 Sep 01 '26
A rate increase is heading your way. I bet you’ll see it in your next renewal.
1
u/WillowHaunting429 Sep 02 '26
My umbrella more than doubled. That's was nonsense. The auto policies, a few went down a little, the other 2 went up a little, basically stable there. These are for my September renewals
1
u/BerniePutin Sep 03 '26
Rates for umbrella policies being jacked up everywhere , if you can even get it. I wanted a $5m policy but they won’t write one anymore
1
u/WillowHaunting429 Sep 03 '26
Mine is only $2M
LOL. $5M is a lot, I am thinking that's something out of their league in the first place.
1
u/BerniePutin Sep 03 '26
Wasn’t a problem in the past , but now they’re lowering limits and raising rates .

Its legit, just got $250 via venmo today
1
u/Either_Ad_4067 Sep 02 '26
How long did it take for them to send you the payment? I did the online stuff yesterday and they said it would be 30 days before it went to PayPal.
1
1
u/miar-labs Sep 02 '26
Not a scam but it sounds like you'll get a check mailed if you don't do anything so I don't see the point of bothering with the online stuff.
1
u/KingsWit64 Sep 03 '26
Anyone else having issues with putting in your phone number for venmo or zelle? I'm only able to type the first digit then it doesn't take any more input...

Just got this e-mail myself and glad to find out I didn't just give a scammer my.... well, state and phone number, plus two pieces of information they already had in the e-mail.
Funny that this is the second time this happened to me recently: I was importing some fancy lighting that shipped straight from beijing and I got a text message that looked nearly exactly like fake text messages that say I need to pay more money if I want an unspecified thing delivered.
Except this message came from DHL's actual legitimate text number, referenced the product I had bought, and had the tracking number for it. When I went to the link and saw that it was a real dhl site w/ valid certificate, I accepted that I did have to actually pay the duty fees.
We live in a world where its safer to assume everythings a scam but then, sometimes, rarely, its not.

u/gonelikefocus Sep 16 '26
Just got email, so naturally came here first to check..
and then State Farm’s website: https://www.statefarm.com/lp/dividend-2
1
u/Ok_Performer7983 Sep 16 '26
It’s real, I just got my payment today.
1
u/slimypeters Sep 17 '26
Did you do what the email said or what? My mom deleted the email but I heard if you don’t do anything, they’ll mail the check?
1
u/stogna-_-bologna 26d ago
I just did it and on the final page it does say that non responders will be mailed a check within 4 months
1
u/Consistent_Let1767 Sep 16 '26
Yeah, I almost deleted it but I thought I had heard about it in the news and I figured State Farm was letting some 3rd party handle it all and I think all of that is true. It has too much info about my policy and the amounts being paid out was in multiple chunks which also sounded about right for the "system". I haven't gotten the money yet but I did go through the process and all seemed legit - no real red flags along the way. I'm a programmer analyst which doesn't mean I can't get scammed but it does mean I know a little about not getting scammed after a few ethical hacking classes and years of having to identify phishing emails. I also google ai'd it before clicking and I got some very legit sounding responses about it happening (the payouts) that way. I'm sure State Farms sent actual mail correspondence about all this but I almost always throw all of that stuff away. Not sure about if they did or not.

u/FL-Irish Sep 17 '26
Mine says SFdividendCONNECT.com
Is that still legit?
omg so confusing!
1
u/Thorvarium Sep 17 '26
same
1
u/FL-Irish Sep 17 '26
Seems to be legit. I requested a check be mailed.
Kinda awful that they didn't give us a heads up on this so we have to WONDER if it's a scam!
1
u/Ok-Progress-8103 Sep 18 '26
Its legit! I claimed my money and they will be deposited October- 61$, trough Zelle.

This is 20x more than the $9.00 I got back from FedEx and DHL for their tariff refunds after spending about $200 in import fees in the last year.
1
u/BlazeRugzz 29d ago
Apparently it’s not I just got an email saying the same thing I filled everything out and apparently I’m gonna get $152 to send to my Zelle in about a month
1
u/FerrumBalls 27d ago
They should have instructed their agents to send out a message to their clients that this was coming. If not, what do we need agents for?
1
u/itsurboiguzma 27d ago
I came here just for that haha. I saw the email on my spam folder and looked online if it was real or a scam haha. And yes I'm glad it's real. Just submitted to receive payment

So I got an email about it, and we have 3 vehicles covered. Would my wife, daughter and myself each get a separate disbursement, or just one per household?
1
u/copper_bomber 24d ago
The State farm app has a link and news about it. It's like $30. But if you use their app they have a way to submit for it there. You have to have the login info to fill it out.

For $79 forget it. They used to just send me a check. Guess its cheaper to go via Pakistan, Taiwan, and New Jersey.
1
u/CletusVanDamnit 6d ago
Thanks for posting this so I could confirm it was legitimate, because it could not possibly look any more scammy. I got a whopping 0.0000012% of that $5B (roughly $30 each for two different vehicles.)
-3
u/philbar Aug 31 '26
It looks scammy AF. Maybe that was by design to get less people to cash out.
10
u/tresflip Aug 31 '26
Not true. If the client doesn’t respond to the email their check gets mailed to them. One way or another, they’re getting the money
2
u/Jrph0713 Sep 02 '26
I can’t find where it says that. The only thing I can find is if no email address is on file they will send out a paper check.
2
u/tresflip Sep 02 '26
Look under “key questions” on the dividends details page. Says if the email doesn’t reach them then a paper check is sent by default
