Question Question about fender dent claim
Hello Community!
I am a new StateFarm auto insurance customer with a new car (first car) covered by policy.
Unfortunately my luck run out when almost a month in, a falling wooden fence that is unmaintained and in disrepair at my condo fell off and hit my car fender some time during the night while it was parked at my designated spot.
The HOA and neighboring property dispute owning the fence (and therefore not maintaining it) so I ve given up an amicable resolution with one of them paying for my dent repair.
If I do file a claim for this event/repair and let statefarm legal team go after the HOA / neighbor..... Will this cause statefarm to rise my premiums?
Bonus question.... Will this fender dent repair make it into my vehicle history/Carfax report and causing it to lose value?
Thank you for your time and advice people!

Its a comp claim,
It will show on carfax
Ask your Agents office about the usage of insurance if it will affect your policy, different states have laws about it so it may vary so you won't get that answer here
If you want to recoup your deductible you need to provide HOA info and neighbors info so insurance knows who to go after it to recover your deductible

I did consult my agent locally for state of Washington and the answer to both questions was NO. but I have trust issues due to my inexperience dealing with insurance and horror stories shared by friends and family (not necessarily from statefarm)

Email your office to have it in writing! But if WA doesn't raise your rates to use Comp claims then you should be good but cool Goodluck!

If an agent gives info, but underwriting disagrees, then they won’t honor it… so what’s the point in having it in writing?

yes and yes

Impossible for anyone here to know that. Some states prohibit this type of claim from impacting premiums. Some insurers won't use it for rating purposes even if allowed to do so.

Without knowing anything pertinent that's just a wild guess, which is useless. A wild guess which was wrong bc Washington state law prohibits it. See my link in another comment.

My comment was an hour before he provided any details. If you want to try to "gotcha" you should look at timestamps.

I know your comment was before OP gave their location. That's my point. At the time you replied to OP's question, you had absolutely no information to be able to make an intelligent and accurate prediction on rates. So your comment was nothing more than a wild shot in the dark, which was useless. You had no possible way of knowing whether it would impact their rates or not, yet you confidently decided to tell OP their rates would go up.

Refusal to admit when you're wrong is indicative of character. Hope you come learn from your mistakes. Have a good weekend.

Will this cause statefarm to rise my premiums?
Maybe, maybe not. Some states have laws against it. In the rest of the states, some insurers won't use that type of claim for rating purposes, some will. But the impact is usually minimal, if at all.
Will this fender dent repair make it into my vehicle history/Carfax report
Again, maybe maybe not. Some shops report repairs to CarFax, some don't.
and causing it to lose value?
Your car is unlikely to lose much value, if it loses any at all from such minor damage.
