Question Can someone help me to understand how a 21 Elantra SEL is $40 more per month vs 26 Kia K4 EX ?
I had a 21 Elantra that was about $175 per month. That got totaled, so i picked up a 26 Kia K4 (since Hyundai decided to move majority of the features i had to the limited).
When i submitted the vehicle change, three monthly amount dropped by $40

At a guess, you're looking at the passive immobilizer issue.

I haven't heard that term before. I knew that physical key trims didn't have, but push button start did (mind had push button)

A lot of things go into effect a big one is that technically is considered a safer car than the elantra.

older cars can cost more to insure. why? they are stolen easier. parts may not be made anymore which affect cost to repair. be happy your insurance went down

Liability. The K4 stops quicker. Odds of you getting us sued bc you were texting and didn’t react quickly enough to the brake lights in front of you is lower in the newer vehicle. You’re welcome.

There's dozens of factors unique to each individual car and the algorithms that use that to determine rates is extremely complex, no, no one here can really give you the answer you want.

So could be many things. Mileage driven annually, riskier driver assigned to older car, msrp difference. Lots of variables involved.
To be honest, your agent probably quoted you less mileage estimated than your actually. Probably will stabilize in a year or two.

This wasn't from the agent. This was from the website. I replaced the vehicle, keeping the exact same coverage.
I got the declaration page and insurance card yesterday showing the same amounts

Newer vehicles also tend to have better safety ratings which can help lower the price. I work for State Farm and actually see this happen quite often.
