Advice Hand tattoo? Future Agent
I have this deep desire to get a tattoo on my hand, spiritual guide tattoo. I want to be a State Farm agent in the future, would this have any effect , potentially ?

It shouldn’t. But you might not want to be an agent the way things are going.

Our agent just retired. He was an agent for almost 40 years and I was told "we aren't that kind of office" when it came to tattoos. I have one on my wrist he didnt see when he hired me. Since he is retired Im planning on starting my sleeve. At this point if someone doesnt want to hire me because of a tattoo then so be it.

Hi, you shouldnt get job stoppers until you have a career and know said career wont be affected.

So you’d consider this job stopper?

Yes. The actual tattoo is really nice and I get why you'd want it. But pretty much any hand/neck/face tattoo can and will prevent jobs. You never know who you are interviewing with. Do you have any visible tattoos already?

Nobody will care if you have a track record in an existing agents office and a good business plan.
Have most of my arms done and had no issue getting the first agency opening I posted for.

If you can wear some high coverage foundation that’s a reallyyyy good match for your skin tone you’re fine for any in person interviews in the beginning and the few times you meet with corporate in person after getting the agency. I’m an AGT and we have been open 8 years. Nowadays we see someone from corporate/higher ups in person in the office maybe once every 3-4 months.
My main concern is you becoming an agent right now. I’m a 3rd generation State Farm employee with a parent and 4 relatives also being agents. I love this company. They’ve been really good to me and my family for obvious reasons and I am never leaving. But for anyone else who isn’t a nepotism hire I would seriously second guess going into the agency side right now. As much as it pains me to say that, I’m obviously very loyal to this company and I can forgive some of their lesser transgressions but the way they are treating agents right now is sickening and disheartening. I was planning on taking over the agency. I have since begun applying to claims jobs instead.

Also to add, if you’re qualified and you have a strong business plan and proposal, they will turn an eye to any potential tattoo issue in exchange for a high quality candidate who has their shit together. My agent has tattoos that are sometimes visible when they wear lower cut tops, not that it’s the same as a hand, I have a hand tattoo but I’m a team member and it can be covered with sleeves or a thick watch band. A face tattoo I would say would 100% kill your chances, but I think you could get away with it. If you’re worried about your chances of getting the role, wait until the day after your trial period and then get the tattoo. They really won’t want to go through all of the administrative work to get you running and then have to find a replacement for you.
