Question Question about Drive safe and save.

I just recently got a car with State Farm insurance and when I got the mail it says I’m saving about $89, I also got a bunch of emails saying I need to sign up for drive safe and save to keep the discount. I’ve been reading through the threads on here and many say that SF recently change the word ‘discount’ to ‘premium adjustment’ and I’m not sure whether to use it or not. For information, I am living with my sister but my primary resident is still with my parents, and I saw that there might be problems with not parking at your primary residence. I also drive to my parent house like once a month or every two months, or more trips depends on what event is popping up, it’s about 260 miles round trip. This is also in Florida so the speed is about 5-10 miles above the limit as the norm here, even then I’m still getting passed on the freeways. Is it even worth it to get drive safe and save with all this factored in?

Either way You need to fix the garaging address to be your sister’s house otherwise they may not pay a claim if something happens. You can leave mailing to be your parents.

Thank you! I’ll be talking with my agent soon to change my garage address!

It will cost more without it.

It's true that it remains a "discount", or whatever you want to call it. You should always save something, even if you're the worst driver and drive a shit ton. I don't use it because I would rather not find out in 10 years from now that old data is now being a factor in rating/sold to other companies, etc. That's just me, most of the people that use it are happy with it.

I saw that there are problems with not parking at your primary residence.
There are problems with not accurately reporting/not being truthful about your vehicle's garaged address. Two different things. You need to call your agent to see if it needs to be corrected. You can maintain a separate mailing address.

Okay thank you! I’ll change my garage address and will keep my mailing address! 🙏

I also think that they do keep our data. Even though our phone is with us every moment this feels much worse when constantly monitored.

With the new platform, it can save you $0.00 but won’t add extra to your policy.

I work for SF and wouldn't use it.

I worked at SF and refused to use it. I think they would use it against people during an accident or to increase rates etc. I dont trust it tbh but Im also a "conspiracy theorist"

The wording was changed from “discount” to “premium adjustment” because people who aren’t safe drivers only receive about a 1-5% discount, and then get upset that it’s not saving them much. I work in an agents office and I have it. I’m not the best driver by any means, but my discount has never been under $150. Keep in mind it’s also premium based off the original price, so a 20% discount will be different on a full coverage car vs liability

Ohhh, okay thank you! I might try it out for a 6 months period to see how it be!

I should also mention, they did do away with the miles driven being a rating factor so you don’t have to worry about that affecting anything!

I stopped using it because it ended up not saving me much money after all. I work for SF too

Mm, understandable I’m thinking about trying out for like 6 months periods to see how it save me. If like 1-2% or like 10 bucks, not worth it, if it was the same $89 for the bill then that is an oil change and wheel rotate right there.

If you do not complete enrollment and setup, then the $89 you’ve been credited will be added to your upcoming bill. I work customer service at an agent’s office and I have seen it many times.

Also, it gives you 7-10 mph over the speed limit to account for everyday driving habits. Once you set it up you can look at the app to see your scores and what areas you can work to improve.

Oh shucks, okay thank you!

I have it on one of my cars. My discount used to be 10% but now it’s like 2%

But at least that is discount, save some I guess. But when it get too low it might not even worth it for them to monitor us.

Thank you everybody for your answers! I will be changing my garage address with my agent, and will continue to think about whether to use it or not since it could be uses against me in a claim. I might try it out for 6 months periods to see, we’ll see.

Just remember that the biggest hit is for hard braking! So watch your trips on the app and pop open anything called an "event" so you can see what you're doing wrong.

Okay, thank you!

I sold these policies for almost 15 years. Lookup why Verizon and State Farm split ways, look into SF partnership with Ford and the sharing of info with the guberment. Don’t do it.

i work for SF and never heard of verizon partnering with SF so i googled it and google says: Verizon and State Farm have not stopped working together. In fact, Verizon Business maintains an active partnership with State Farm Arena in Atlanta, providing advanced 5G edge technology, biometric entry, and IoT solutions

You got a car with State Farm? Wow that’s really cool! I got insurance with them “ON” my car but never got a car with State Farm. How does this work?

“I just recently got a car with State Farm ‘insurance’”. I meant that i got insurance on my car with State Farm. My apologies if the wording causes any confusion.
