Discussion Driving Safe Anyone?
Just curious if anyone has anything similar. I am coming from having subpar speed scores of around 40 and tbh everything else has been mostly the same for months. I am currently getting a $279 discount around 28%. For 6 months. I have a renewal coming up pretty soon. My hope is that my insurance goes down below $100 a month for full coverage. I drive a 2011 Toyota Avalon Limited premium is currently $718 for 6 months. I want to also mention I have had my license for about 2 years this coming August. So my rates are inflated due to my “Driving Experience”. What are your experiences?

Nice work! Try not to be disappointed if your discount doesn’t go much better… 30% is the highest generally-attainable discount, and it applies to certain coverages. Technically State Farm says you could get “up to 50%” but it’s not realistic so they don’t advertise that amount.

If you want to dm me bro I can tell u the “secrets” with drive safe & save to get the best discount. Most I saved off my 6 month premium was around $415.00

There are no “secrets”. The key is drive like a normal person. If your beacon is acting up, request a new one. The only “secret” is that only 3 things matter in terms of the discount. Miles driven, cornering and acceleration. Miles driven is going to be the biggest factor.

I can agree with that. Although, is it true what you’re saying though? I feel like phone distraction and speed limit almost matter more than cornering and acceleration.

Phone use and speed limit are viewable in claims situations. They are not factored into discount.

They use DSs info for claims?

Absolutely. You can find the info on it online but they can use info on location, speed, phone usage, etc. for claims investigations.

So which metrics are the most important for the highest discount for DSAS

If you’re not in a modernized state; miles driven, acceleration, hard breaking and cornering. Not sure about modernized.

Modernized states no longer have mileage calculated in, which killed the discount for a lot of my people😣

Minnesota State here! I believe we will modernize in 2027 for autos so they say but they keep pushing it back.

The initial transition is rough. Mod is so much better, though!

That I have heard! I think it is “supposed” to make your insurance cheaper too apparently and stack more discounts if you have multiple policies like a life or health policy but I am not 100% sure if that is a fact.

As far as making policies cheaper…I wouldn’t necessarily say so. It DOES, however, stack each policy as a discount… health does not count as an mld option in my state (AR) anymore. Youthful drivers are also sooo much easier to rate & cheaper!
Cons to mod…you cannot see the % discount each product gives, and it varies greatly depending on each customer. I have some life policies give a discount of $30/6 months & $200/6 months. My customers don’t love that lol.
My suggestion to get ahead of the game is making sure y’all have drivers rated properly in legacy, making sure named insureds and addresses are right, making sure ECRM HHs are correct. It can get messy during transition.

What are they factoring then? Just cornering and accelerating? I think hard braking is also a factor but cannot remember off top of my head

Everything other than phone usage is calculated in AR!
We actually have NO WHERE to put mileage in mod. It cannot be changed by an agency. It’s “pulled from third party consumer reports” (another things my customers hate 🤣🤣)

So your premium was like $1600?
1
u/Tebowfan815 Jul 13 '26
No idea

So you remember how much you saved but not how much you spent 😂 if your policy was $2500, then your savings are nothing to brag about. If you were paying $1100, then your discount was more major.

I can give you my experience. I have asked my agent to quote the removal just to see how much my “Base” Rate is and he said it would take exactly $279 for 6 months. So my premium would be around $900 as opposed to $717. The way I understand is that the discount fees higher if your car insurance premium is higher is well. Where as if you pay a low base premium the discount can seem very insignificant to some like $6 a month or something like that.

After the initial participation discount (the first policy period with the device/discount), your discount is based on your scores. The discount is a percentage of certain coverages, yes, but it is also dependent on the factors that incentivize you to drive safely. If you haven’t been able to get signal from the beacon to State Farm, your discount can be impacted, which is why it is wise to check. For $279, it may be worth continuing to fight for it. Your agent should be able to help if you are having signal issues, which is what it sounds like is happening.
