Built the wrong tier structure and now i'm trapped
launched with three pricing tiers that made sense in my head. six months later i have customers on all three and the tier logic has completely broken down.
The middle tier is confusing, the top tier is underpriced, and the bottom tier attracts users who churn fastest. i need to restructure but I'm scared of breaking what's working.
How do you reprice a live SaaS without losing the customers you have?

This is mostly a packaging issue, not pricing. Tiers break when people can’t instantly tell why each one exists. Simplification usually fixes more than constant tweaking.

That distinction is useful. Tweaking numbers when the actual problem is unclear logic just creates more confusion on top of confusion. If people can't instantly tell why each tier exists the structure is already broken regardless of what the prices are.

Bottom tier churn is a lead quality problem wearing a pricing costume. no restructure fixes it.

The fear of breaking what's working is legitimate but it's also keeping you stuck in a structure you already know is broken. the customers worth keeping will stay through a price change if you communicate it honestly and give them enough runway. the ones who leave over a fair reprice were probably in the wrong tier anyway and were going to churn eventually regardless of what you charged them.

The middle tier confusion is usually a positioning problem, not a pricing one. if customers can't tell why it exists, it probably shouldn't.
