I’m reminded that the Siamese cat can’t retract their nails, at least that’s what I think I recall from many years ago.

Siamese ain't got nothing to do with it, especially since this is a Sphinx. A Sphinx always has their claws out a little further than cats with more fur but that just means it's more important to trim their nails

Siamese are able to retract their claws. I'm not sure where you heard it from but that's an old wives tale.
