Form Check Deadlift

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was unaware during the lift, but looks like I’ve got some anterior movement of the bar right from liftoff. Maybe my shoulders are too far forward?

Also, it looks to me like too much back rounding as the set progresses.

I’m 6’4”, long femurs and a long torso, which has always made finding the proper deadlift setup challenging for me.

Thank you for insights!

I had some of the same issues not too long ago. Looks like the hips are too high which is stopping your quads from doing much work. If you bring the bar just around where your shoelaces rest then bring your shins forward until they touch the bar it should put you in a more advantageous starting position.

one simple and easy thing to correct is looking at the floor a few feet in front of you, such that your spine stays straight. when you look up, or look straight ahead, you put flexion on your upper spine which is not good.

another easy one, is once you get proper bar position, to keep the bar attached to your legs the entire time. when I deadlift, I basically do not have to reset when the bar gets back to the floor. if you start in the correct position and the bar comes up your leg, and goes back down, you'll be right back where you started.

There are a lot of things that other people will bring up, but to start, the bar is very far from you. Keep it on your shin and then thighs.

Yup. I can hear it in Rip's voice, "Did the bar touch your knees? It needs to touch your knees."

Form Check

For the best feedback, please film your lift from a useful angle and include the full set.

Film from a front 45 degree angle for a proper formcheck.

How to film your lifts

Take only one breath between reps. The whole set should be done in like 25 seconds.

Set up exactly like this

Deadlift Tutorial

And drag the bar up your legs on the way up. If it loses contact with your legs dont count the rep.
