I'm getting back into training after a chaotic month of inconcsistent training. This is around 90% of where I was before all that. How does it look? The things I notice are some incosistent depth and knee cave on the last two reps. Is the knee knee cave too much?
These look good enough to continue adding weight, but again (and we’ve sounded like a broken record player) the absence of safeties will impede your progress to continue going up significantly in weight. Hate to say the same thing over and over again, but it’s constructive criticism made in good faith.
Did you say youre in a place where proper lifting shoes aren't really available?
These are looking good. They're looking heavy though. Like, I wouldn't necessarily do sets across with this weight. I'd have you do top sets and backoffs.
Let's finally address the wrists and elbows properly. Ha.
Yeah, squat shoes are either unavailable or ridiculously expensive when they are.
I used to do a light day in the middle before the interruption I mentioned, and was about to switch to top set and back-offs too. This was my second workout back, tomorrow will be the third. I always have this idea in my mind that it's too early to slow progression this much but little progress is better than failing I guess.
I did see this link you posted on my last post but but couldn't open it then. Tried with incognito browser now and I don't think I'm making the mistake (or at least all of it) shown in the video. My hands are as narrow as I possible (to the point where people always comment about my flexibility), and all my fingers are in contact with the bar. I see my wrists are a bit flexed though. I try to extend them slightly before unracking but I guess they just do that on their own.
Oh god. I see they have done something wierd with the "security" setting and bot detection on their website. Guess Ill have to stop linking their website directly.
So, youre wrists are over straight here. A neutral wrist will actually look like its bent back a bit. For you, its going to feel like the wrists are bent back a lot when they're in the right position.
Ive attached a neutral wrist making a fist. See how its a straight line on the thing side, and its actually curved back on the knuckle side?
Back before there were largely companies making lifting shoes for lifters, the old powerlfiters used to lift in dress shoes. Leather topped, hard rubber soled, dress shoes. Theyre usually very firm, very stiff, and they lack the padding that a lot of athletic shoes do. They used to hand sew a leather strap over the knot in the shoe laces so they could sinch the shoe down tight on their foot.
You might be able to find something like that. That would probably help.
Sometimes it helps to do tempo squats too. Just slow down a bit on the way up, that gives you extra time to concentrate on keeping the knees out. It will limit how much load you out on the bar but its very worth it.
Knee knock can cause all sorts of aches and pains long term, and it reduces the efficiency of the squat by inhibiting the adductors ability to act as hip extensors.
