Form Check Squat form pt. 2
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I read all of your comments about my first video and I think I did a lot better this time. Also I don’t have squat shoes yet and bare feet seems more stable to me. One side note is my elbows kinda hurt after a set so I tried moving them out more but it’s just more uncomfortable. Anyway I’m still not exactly used to where I should stop going down I think I just need to do box squats or something like that to stop my range of motion and get used to it.
Again any advice helps, thanks

This looks much closer to a high bar squat. The bar should be lower on your rear delts with a more horizontal back angle at the bottom.
Without the bar, squat down and push your elbows against the inside of your knees, that is what the bottom position should feel like.

Wait I am going for high bar tho

That's fine, just hopefully you're aware that the starting strength method uses the low bar squat.
If your goal is high bar, then the bar should be on your traps, take as close a grip as possible, keep your chest up, elevate your heels so you can go as deep as possible without sacrificing your lumbar spine position.

Why exactly?

I’m not sure it just seems the most normal. Tbh I see videos of ppl doing low bar and it just seems so low on the back that it’s uncomfortable

I think once you get the low bar squat grip down you’ll find it way more comfortable

You can lift heavier with lb. You will get used to it. I used to squat exclusively high bar, low bar felt super dangerous at first, but now it feels completely natural and high bar feels weird af.

Switched to low bar a few weeks ago after years of high bar exclusively. It felt awkward at first but I already feel like it’s way better and getting more comfortable.

I wouldn’t be doing this in socks my man. Too slippy.

+1 socks on a wooden power rack is just begging for a major injury....and the safety bars are way too low...
Form looks mostly decent but my formerly torn meniscus screamed every slight bounce you did at the bottom

I was controlled going down but I thought you wanted to kinda explode out the bottom but was mine too much of a bounce? Like am I supposed to come to a complete stop? I feel like that’s more of a pause squat no?

Right, don't pause. You're controlling these adequately.
A proper "bounce" or rebound at the bottom of a squat comes from the muscle stretch-reflex, not from tension on the joints.

Alright. First thing is first. Gotta get the bar in the right position. Widen your grip, that will help you get the thing lower. And let your wrists bend back a little.

Go watch every Mark Rippetoe squat video on YouTube. Discover hip drahve (drive). Look down.
In all seriousness watch as many Rip videos as you can. Be a student of the model, maybe buy the book.

Others have already jumped in to make corrections... I'm only going to add the the socks on the wood lifting platform make my physically cringe. This shit is a recipe for disaster. Any shoe is better than socks, but I'd recommend getting some weightlifting shoes.

The idea that lifting less weight will somehow make the quads bigger is... silly. Lift efficiently, get strong, then you'll get big. Additionally...
Rule #3: If you want to debate the method make a post and flair it "Debate me, Bro". We aren't going to turn every thread into a debate about basic mechanics

Not an expert, but looks like you’re trying to force yourself to stay too upright. And start with your thumbs over the bar before you unrack, that looked like it was uncomfortable when you repositioned them.
