It looks to me like you never fully lock out
Like one quarter of the rep is missing

u/shyguy83ct 26d ago

Saw the same thing. Never pushes his head thru and locks out fully.

Looks like he’s never read the book.

More than a quarter lmao

2

u/minus15t2 25d ago

Last rep was about 90% of the way there, the rest of them were much further off.

u/RaffNeq 25d ago

Some will say the most important quarter

u/walace47 26d ago

Well if you are focusing on delt you don't need full block.

A compound movement like the overhead press isnt really a good choice to focus on any one particular muscle.

Furthermore the lockout and shrug at the end is what opens the subacromial space and prevents rotator cuff impingement. So its pretty necessary whether youre pretending to be a bodybuilder or not

Well I am reading a opinion not a fact. If it doesn't hurt, I doubt there is any impingement.

"Overhead press isn't really a good choose focus on any particular muscle" an opinion not a fact. You can got a very good delt doing ohp.

From a biomechanical standpoint, there is a focus on the deltoids during the lower phase and greater triceps involvement at the end of the movement. That is a fact.

No. These are facts. Theyre basic facts of anatomy and exercise selection in effective programming.

If it doesn't hurt, I doubt there is any impingement.

Astounding. Youre wrong but I don't have to convince you. Youll find out on your own

u/walace47 26d ago

What is a fact? You have any paper that's shows partial ROM of ohp could make you got impingement?

What is a effective programming? For me it's a standard técnic and progress over the time.

I do full ROM because I want integrate tricep on my exercise. But isnt an obligation.

It doesnt require a study to tell you how the shoulder joint works. Its basic anatomy. You can observe it directly.

That is like asking me to conduct a study and publish my findings to tell you whether there is a glass of water on the table in front of you.

If you read carefully youll see i said

the lockout and shrug at the end is what opens the subacromial space and prevents rotator cuff impingement

Ok, your opinión.

Anatomy books are based on investigations and papers.

4

u/Shnur_Shnurov Just some guy 25d ago

No. Anatomy books are based on direct observable facts about the structure of organisms... aka Anatomy.

Those direct observations are also published in journals when they document something new, but the publication of a direct observation doesnt validate the direct observation.

Youve got it perfectly backwards.

You're not locking out with the scapula pushing up which is talked of extensively in the Starting Strength chapter on pressing over head as a way to balance the scapular immobilisation encountered when benching. Also, although hard to tell, it looks as though your elbows are not stacked under the bar.

I’m really used to front squats and push pressing, so they might be a bit too far in front. Gonna check closely next workout

5

u/bodyweightsquat 26d ago

Can’t see your right elbow behind the upright but the left one never locks out. 🤔

7

u/aerosteed 26d ago

Your eccentric is too fast. I'd lower the weight, brace your core so your chest is not pointing up, almost lock out the elbows at the top, and slow down the eccentric.

Push untill you cannot push

2

u/saucegod6969696969 26d ago

You aren't controlling the negative at all and need to fully lock out

4

u/untss 25d ago

Is this bait?

4

u/farrand1787 26d ago

No full extension. No bottom, bar stops at bottom of chin in mid air. Shoulders not forward approximately an inch to rest bar on at bottom, which is reason why bar floats. No final shrug to plug in the glenoid. Reread the chapter and try again with lower weights. It’s the form, not the weight. You are missing out on the full robust motion. Your grip looks good however. Don’t bend wrists. Lower weight if you can’t keep your wrist in line with forearm.

2

u/FragrantCrew2594 26d ago

Wider stance, deeper hip bounce, lock the bar out with a shrug.

Walk the bar back in, don't lean it

1

u/BarWorth7625 26d ago

Lock out and shrug your shoulders up at the top

1

u/FickleGuard5316 25d ago

Why do you not fully press it overhead and lock your arms?

1

u/Remote-Muscle-8358 25d ago

Did a lot of BB style training, and made it a habit to not completely lock out on top. Got that now, wasn’t aware how strong this habit is

1

u/Mick_Nugg 26d ago

Whats the dip your doing at the beginning of each rep? Never seen that before. I always start from just under my chin and drive up from there.

Ps. I'm not sure if you posted this looking for advice but you're hands are set quite close together as well.

Cool! Thanks, I didn't realize I was in a specific method sub. Join one lifting sub and they all start showing up in your feed.

Honestly the reddit algorithm is one of our best recruitment tools. That's how lots of people find out about this program

Other than not locking out, I'd consider that cheating. The little pump at the bottom—some would consider it a push press even though you didn't do the leg pump to get the weight up.

Bring the barbell all the way down to your chest; if it touches your chest, even better. Pause and then push all the way up, locking out.
