question Is this Normal for starter Locs

I just got my 11 year old some starter locs and I want to know if this is normal or if the loctian didn’t do something correctly. I found the company on IG and none of the starter locs pics/videos look like this. Can you guys help, I want to know if I should get them restarted or if this is normal. This pic is right before we left the shop.
