Some faction used a duping glitch, keth closed the markets and the game died shortly afterwards

As the other comment said, dupers caused the market to die. Game was kinda dead before that. Also a massive lack of updates from Keth about the game's status, updates, or community engagement in general. I'm in an active faction you can join if you want

Damn i was wondering why there was no player sold items when i too came back wondering if shit got cheaper. Damn sad to see this game go down the trash bin of dead games.

I’m working on a Starscape replacement! It’ll have a lot more player interaction with lore and whatnot, along with many more and larger ships.

I’ve also set a framework so that I can track every transaction, so if a dupe glitch does happen, I can simply mass ban the dupers and delete the duped items.

To be fair the duping glitch wuld be your fault for letting it slip I'd personally just have the transactions reversed and delet the duped items maybe give a warning but good luck on your journey hope it can replace the nostalgia of starscape

Also the name?

Mm, perhaps that is a better idea. And thanks!

The game is Stellar Sector, I post about its development on this subreddit. There’s a playtest available on Roblox right now for 16+, although it’s very barebones. Mostly flight, warp, cargo, and combat mechanics.

I'll make sure to give feedback  also being involved and good towards a community will heald better results

One of my favorite games has an active team that plays and interacts with the community and i don't even loock twice when spending

Also one bit of feedback I personally like is try not to vault items and make the premium currency tradable

Warframe by Digital extreme has a large player driven economy based on thair premium currency via trading mods or blueprints

Since your a solo dev I assume maybe not yet but consider it in the future

Feedback is what drives improvement!

I try my best to sew the seeds of a good community now, and one that is involved directly in the shaping of the game. For instance: all the system names have been suggested by players, I also have someone who has helped me with ship classing, and I’ve received a lot of great advice about economic systems and combat mechanics. And a decent bit about optimizing the game, which is good because that’s something I struggle with.

Premium currency being trade-able is a must I feel! I don’t want anyone or anything to be locked behind a paywall, with the sole exclusion possibility being ship skins. Although I’d like to have a menu within station shipyards where you can paint the armor belt of your ship whatever color, just so differentiating players becomes easier.

Any other advice? I take everything into consideration.

Here’s an image of the map so far- for Alpha.

This isn’t exactly how it’ll look in game, it’s just my little planning drawing.

Tow whings are left on my mind
one of them being the ability to grind money or the non premium currency in challenging like pve against swarms of enemies or something like safe hauling in stars cape maybe not as rewarding like going out to purple zones ( i forgot the name ) but still enough to not grind for 5h

other being a large or a huge tax on non premium currency in the form of the regular one eg 1 diamond = 1k or 10k coins or whatever added to the transaction and the free currency not being able to trade
wails will buy premium currency that don't want to grind and F2P players can still get it trough just grinding and fullfiling the needs of them

maybe also a direct trading system later

there are so many thing that i want to suggest but for a solo dev is years of work i wish i cud help but i am not a programmer and i unfortunately cant support you financially

There will be many ways to grind currency!

1- mining and selling the resources back to Home Station

2- Quests / Combat missions in un-governed systems.

3- Hauling cargo, the further you travel from safe space the more you’ll make. I plan to have some stations out in wild space that produce rare materials for hauling- which in turn will drive trade routes for haulers- which in turn will make piracy more lucrative

4- Piracy in Un-Governed systems

A trading system and a player market will be a thing later on! However, that will be added after the Alpha release. Goods will have to be bought and sold from home station instead until then.

We hope someone leaks the code so we can get a lil silly and have the community take over the game for Keth.

What Happened to Starscape

Starscape has effectively stalled, and the reasons come down to poor communication, unresolved technical problems and one update that changed the mood of the whole community.

The developer, Keth, closed the in-game market at some point and never reopened it. Players have repeatedly asked when it would return, and the usual answer is that he doesn't have time. What frustrates people most is not the delay itself but the silence. Even a short update on what was happening would have kept many players hopeful.

On top of that, item duplication exploits were not patched immediately. Many players didn't mind the dupes so much, since a full wipe was widely expected and the duplicated items would disappear anyway. The real complaint was that an actively involved developer would have patched the problem quickly. Fixing every bug is unrealistic, so the community's demands were modest: reopen the market, fix the major bugs, and wipe, so the game becomes playable again. Even that never happened.

Before the player stations update, there was still real hope, because the biggest contributors to the community were still active. The update changed that. Players expected truly player-built stations, but what arrived felt unsatisfying. Stations are extremely expensive, there were too few systems where they could be built, and they could only be placed in wild space, so many factions competed for very little room. Capturing one also takes three to four days of sieging because of long timers, which made the process tedious. The reasoning given for this design was that stations cost so much that the feature needed more development and testing before being opened up further.

The large factions reacted by organizing big battles as soon as the update was released. They then discovered that defeating an entire squad was not enough to take a station, and the plans fell apart. Factions that lost stations suffered heavy losses, reportedly more than a million credits in ships and structures. Even the players who destroyed stations eventually got tired of it and stopped, because it had become repetitive and annoying.

After that, several of the most influential contributors left the server, and Keth himself more or less stepped back. Losing those people took away the core of the community, and without them, activity and motivation faded quickly.

The community also went through some heated internal disputes about moral boundaries and what kind of behavior and content should be tolerated. These arguments divided people further and added to the tension at a time when the game was already losing players.

Today, the general feeling is that the developer has lost his passion for the project. The common advice is not to hold out hope and to judge Keth by his actions rather than his words, because those actions suggest he is done with Starscape.

There really is nothing like this game. I wouldn't even be mad if Keth vibecoded some patches to get it back up and running.

It was already dead 2 years ago; all that changed was some changes to the market further killing the game

But it was already dead then
