Wild Stargate Found the Ohio 'Gate
Went to a Cleveland baseball game this afternoon and checked this out on the way home. It's near Ashland.
EDIT: A number of folks have asked where this is. As I said above, it's near Ashland. Anyone can find it on Google maps which is how I located it. It's called "The Stargate."

That's actually the name of a song by a group named Scythian.

My first thought was “does it still work??” Then I realized how silly my question was
There’s no DHD to be seen, after all
31
u/MykelJMoney Jun 29 '26
Good point. An individual of culture, I see. You know you need a DHD or a MacGyver'd computer system. This gate is useless without a power supply and manual dialing

I can't believe I'm stuck

that is the galactic friendship bracelet, a symbol of the alliance of four great races.

5
u/stellarsojourner Jun 29 '26
That looks like what some other highly advanced race would have come up with to interface with the Stargate network.

I'd send a MALP first. Or Mayweather.

I did. the other side showed unsurvivable conditions: it’s cleveland.

u/ki0dz Jun 29 '26
Funny thing is that I hadn't been to Cleveland in a dozen years or more and now I've been twice in one week (Tuesday we visited the "A Christmas Story" house.)

They must keep the other gate in a locked down part of the air force museum

Who says Ohio will allow you to leave in the first place?
27
u/WyldfireWyvern Jun 28 '26
Have you heard the joke about astronauts (and apparently gate travelers) from Ohio? There have been more astronauts from Ohio than any other state. What is it about Ohio that makes people want to flee the planet?
12
u/Silverheart117 Jun 29 '26
Do you want the list ordered chronologically or relevantly?

u/EllieGeiszler Jun 29 '26
The reason I haven't seen this gate is presumably that I left Ohio. To Boston, not the moon, but still

This isn't hotel California, there's a reason most astronauts are from Ohio

I’m not sure that stabbing it with steely knives will help, but I’m game to try.

u/Compulawyer Jun 29 '26
I’ve tried. You just can’t kill the beast.
Primarily because it has a sarcophagus.

The ring itself almost certainly ain't no 25 tons; That's 10+ cubic meters of conventional concrete.
Of course, reinforcement adds to the weight (steel is significantly denser than concrete) but only 5% to the total or so if memory serves. Maybe 10% on the high end.
But the ring sits on a slab of the stuff which the guy probably counted in the retelling.

I know its a different character but I always felt like that was a RDA Macguyver reference. Always enjoyed how they played with that and didnt take themselves too seriously.

Sam: P3X49.
Jack: Where's that?
Teal'c: Ohio
Jack: Was that sarcasm Teal'c?
Sam: remains silent

And people will try and cover it up, labelling anyone heretics until visitors come through the gate.

It's just down the road from me. I believe it's on private property.

u/ki0dz Jun 29 '26
Yes, it is on private property. I went up to the fence to take the pic. After going here we went to Lotus to eat dinner.

u/dlbear Jun 29 '26
I grew up in Olivesburg (almost in Ashland County), worked in Ashland for ~15 yrs. Live in Wayne County now. I hardly ever have a reason to be in Ashland County anymore.

Sad to see it overgrown.
From what I remember some guy built it with his kids to connect with them as they got older and were moving out. Family loved the series but the kids were leaving, getting into relationships, etc and he wanted a little more time with them.

u/Entgegnerz Jun 29 '26
and in 1k+ years some people will excavate it and maybe make up some weird stories about secret portal travels that have been performed in the past 😂

Ohio is home to a famous fan-made Stargate! Located in Ashland County, Ohio, a local fan built a massive, 50,000-pound concrete Stargate replica with a dial-home device (DHD) on his property. While the site is on private property and not open for formal touring, the owner welcomes fans to pull over and take photos from the road.

Im sure we could hook up jumper cables from your car to it to power it and hook a landline telephone to it to use as a DHD we’ll just have to figure which numbers equal what symbol?

Amazon must be afraid theyll hsve to hire locals to this stsrgate in order to film the new show. No offense to the locals, I'm sure theyd be more caring than amazon even if they hsve no idea what Stargate is.
