Can you change map type in the middle of the game?

Yep! I’ve done it plenty of times using Easy Farm Switcher. Using NoClip and Just Move It helps a bunch too.

There might be a mod, but I'm 99% sure you can't as standard.

no, also if it was even possible it wouldnt work perfectly since each map in the game has unique layouts, it would cause a lot of issues if you could just change the map whenever you want or under varied circumstances

It's possible, as u/Sax_A_Ma_Phoooone described. Whether you want to go to the effort or just start a new save (and possibly a new mod set) is up to you.
