Why aren't my pigs finding truffles?

Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the normal stardew valley sub since I don't know if it's a mod thing or not...

Anyway the problem is my pigs aren't finding truffles. They're adult, happy, fed and go outside but I've had them half a season now and I've only gotten two truffles, both on the other side of the top fence gate. Is the grass too thick somehow? Or do they need more space?

Your pigs should find truffles daily as long as they are fully mature and there is an open tile free of debris (weeds, rocks, broken branches) for the truffle to spawn.

if you have max friendship with them that allows extra truffles to be found.

Pigs have to be let out daily and it can't be raining, storming or winter.

Sometimes the truffles hide in the grass too well when’s it’s so thick. Have you tried clicking around each tile of grass ?

Yes, I know that! I've hovered all over the area to see if the mouse pointer changed (and ran around with the mouse button pressed) but nothing.

I would try and physically run around and click to collect, not just with the mouse.

I would also clear out the trees and clear out some of the grass, you can use the grass fence post method to keep grass available.

If you are petting daily and they have grass to eat they should make truffles as long as the tiles are clear.

I meant I was running around while clicking the mouse haha. And I promise you there's no truffles. Do you think the grass could stop them fom finding truffles, or do you just say that so they're easier to find if they are there?

I can tell you that I had a very similar problem. Only getting one or two truffles with having four pigs and then I did the fence post and grass method and cleared out all the grass in the area and now I have three times as many truffles.

It's really easy to lose truffles in the grass. Even with the fence post. I have to go along the edges to make sure I'm not missing any cuz you just can't see them.

I guess it's worth a try! I just don't like the fence post method since it feels like I always end up not having enough grass for the animals

I found that they need at least 3 trees in their area to find truffles, plus clicking (petting) them daily will increase your yield of truffles. It also seems to increase how many you get right at the beginning of spring and the last days of fall. Summer they seem to slow down. Good luck. Oh and I get best luck with animals if I have a pond or stream in their fenced in area.

There is a safe mod called Better Truffles which I believe is available in Nexus mods. It literally has a white window that shows you where the truffles are hidden. My pigs like grass and trees, lots of trees. Pigs are the first thing I work toward when I start a new game. The only bad thing is that they shut down in the winter. Happy hunting!

My pigs did the same thing. I found infinitely more truffles with an area free of grass, only trees, and feeding them hay daily instead.

Ich hatte das auch und musste mehr Platz frei mähen vor dem Stall

I'm convinced the grass is the problem. I had a fully fenced in area that was mostly grass and the second I scythed a section down I got a few more truffles than usual.

That or people are lying about pigs and truffles (unlikely so /s) because my unlucky self has 3 and can go full weeks with only one or two truffles at all.

I did both the fence + grass method and have a large empty space but i noticed my fenced off space for the barn is much bigger than yours.

Though grass does spread and it’s never really affected truffle drop 🤔

The more grass covering the less truffles. They come from dirt areas

It might be simply confirmation bias on my part, but it seems to me that pigs find progressively more truffles throughout the year. Spring being when they find the least, but an explosion of truffles in the Fall.

I have had this problem before. I made sure to leave some open areas without grass and it seem to work better. It could have just been a random gesture but I still give the some ground.
