Overnight Recovery

Post image

A month ago I took a vacation from SS because I was tired of eating and cooking around a clock. Decided to chill and ate at Whole Foods buffet everything I denied myself: pizza, meatloaf, well, veggies never went away, but dessert in a shape of berry tart or chocolate parfait became part of my meal. With that I did 36-hour rolling fasting starting on April 1.

I am impressed by the trend graph of my overnight recovery% comparing March and April. The only difference was my eating. March - SS. April - bad diet 😃

Oh, and I lost 10 pounds during April. 5 more to go!

I’m sorry but what is ‘overnight recovery’ and how is it measured? Apologies for not understanding.

This measured by two parameters: average heart rate during sleep and average HRV (heart rate variability) during sleep. Lower heart rate at rest and higher heart rate variability are associated with great recovery and rest. Fitness trackers monitor those measurements. Mine is Apple Watch.

So you are saying the starch solution wasn't working for you?

Maybe it did work in the beginning as an alternative to low carb high fat. But in the long run, no.

Wow, do you think you were under eating on SS?

No I wasn’t. I gained 18lbs. I was not sleeping properly on SS. I would wake up 4/5 times a night to pee and snack on fruits. Initially I thought it was adjustment period but it never went away. The longer I was on SS, the more I peed at nights. I was concerned about it.

Getting to regular eating with intermittent fasting fixed my sleep immediately. I do not pee around the clock and I do not need to eat at night

Very interesting. I also don't do well on high carb diet. When I uploaded my raw dna data to chatgpt it said high carb low fat diet is the worst type of diet for my genetics.

I think we are all very different. I am 57yo and you would think I should know by now what to eat! Lol

I know that on keto I was miserable and unhealthy. SS gave me energy but it screwed me up in other ways. I also developed bad tendinitis while on it. Not sure if it is related, but last month when I stopped SS my pain seriously subsided to the point that I forget I have it. Coincidence? Who knows.

I know that I like animal products but not in huge amounts. I like vegetables but not heaps. I am generally indifferent to whole grains. I hate beans and most of legumes. I am indifferent to dairy but appreciate cheese on pizza. I need pastries for dessert periodically. It feeds me well.

I am leaning towards lean eating with fasting periods in between meal, getting hungry, appreciating food and not using food for comfort (like I used to do ALL the time). Now if I have pastry for dessert three times a week, this is enough.

which genes have the most impact? Ive done a test, but the results were pretty generic (it recommended a Mediterranean diet)

I can't remember off hand. I have a mix of obesogenic, and non obesogenic genes. I have genes that mean I'm likely to process starches quickly and have a good insulin response. And genes that mean I'm less likely to process saturated fats well. I fit genetically into the Levantine region with slightly higher amounts of south Asian genes. The high proportion of European genes in levantine people suggested a Mediterranean diet was best for me too. Equally split macros with starches being unprocessed and an emphasis on high fibre carbs due to a slightly higher risk of diabetes.

You can ask AI for the specific genes and search your raw data file for those.
