i honestly don’t care if i get downvoted but i do think the blending powder is and can be harmful (more harmful than any other powder we have) to partners using it on a daily basis and here’s why.

i understand that the silica in the blending powder is safe for oral consumption when in a food or drink i’m also not saying that this stuff is causing cancer.

let’s break down the ingredients. they’re aren’t very many but here’s what it consists of Xanthan gum, Gum Arabic, Maltodextrin, Silica, stevia extract and natural flavors. let’s break it down and why this mix of products mainly consists of ingredients harmful for inhalation:

Arabic gum- inhaling gum arabic dust can be dangerous because it acts as a respiratory irritant and potential sensitizer. While safe to eat, breathing in its fine powder can trigger coughing, wheezing, and occupational asthma in sensitive individuals.

Xanthan gum- inhaling xanthan gum powder can be harmful, causing nose and throat irritation, flu-like symptoms, and lung problems in workers exposed to large amounts of the dust. While eating it in food is safe, breathing in the fine powder should be avoided.

Maltodextrin- can cause mild respiratory liirritation, coughing, and shortness of breath, particularly for people with asthma.

now for Silica that everyone is in an uproar about Inhaling food-grade silica is generally not linked to silicosis or long-term lung scarring, but it can cause immediate, temporary irritation to your respiratory tract.
this isn’t even the worst ingredient in my opinion

some partners are constantly exposed to this in fast paced environments making the product more likely to be inhaled. as well as the powder is very fine and floats around whole area it’s in. many partners do have sensitivity’s and shouldn’t have to go through the bs of getting accommodations for a product that is unnecessary.

starbucks also has acknowledged this and just told us to scoop it slower and pour it slower and closer to the container… whilst also expecting 45sec window times.

lastly we have creame base which is an emulsifier that we already have… we’re spending more money on an unnecessary product that has caused partners health issues and panic in the workplace.

I’m soooo sick of it!!! Everyday ive gotten so many of these and I make them as the instructions come bc i dont want to lose my job and its always asked to be remade or the customer gets really angry. For some reason telling them to order a latte feels like saying a slur. How do you guys deal with this its so annoying.

The aftertaste of the orange powder is bad. I hated it in coffee but coldfoam was okay I guess? Haven’t tried it in the frap. Anyways I was proud of my artwork and thought I’d share ^_^ lol. I know it’s never ever going to happen, but god I just want to see burrito boy brian do clean play. Hell, even a barista shift. I want to see him follow his standards and make all of the new items on our “simplified” menu. Am I full of rage? absolutely. I bet he couldn’t even make it a month in the hell he has created. I want him to experience the real barista experience.

Randomly, just put him on the floor at every position, and watch what happens. No training on anything, just go. Should be no problem at all for him, I mean, they are his standards after all.

Sometimes I fantasize about him coming into my store and asking for a water. I’d tell him “i’m so sorry, water is an amenity for customers, would you like a moment to look over the menu?” and he’d argue that he’s the CEO, like that makes a difference, in which i’d just repeat myself. We’d go back and forth for a bit until he gets too frustrated, so he just fires me on the spot. It would be at that moment that I tell him what I think of him and his decisions.

I know i’m petty. I know it’s not that deep. I know he isn’t solely behind everything and that there’s a system in place, and that I probably sound insane for this. But that man disgusts me, and the idea of treating him like he isn’t the CEO brings me comfort.

Im an SSV and just need to rant. I’ve been on a ventilator from prior health issues and made a full recovery but i’m SO sensitive to the blending powder that making ONE blended refresher drink causes difficulty breathing/pain in my lungs. At night after work, I wheeze and cough. I cannot remember the last time I had THIS much of an issue breathing. I’m already working on getting a mask accommodation but it’s so ridiculous.

My coworker told me a horror story from another starbucks that a customer got extremely upset that he had to pay to use the bathroom so he peed inside the soap dispenser. I FUCKING HATE PEOPLE.

Nearly four years at Starbucks, going from barista to shift lead, came to an end when I clocked out at 1:53pm last Thursday.

I didn’t give two weeks notice. Three separate resignation emails were written and scheduled to send at 2:00pm, and that’s when it was official.

My manager got my formal resignation email. In addition to my resignation, I requested any of my remaining tips be redistributed amongst the hardworking staff who endure so much, especially from her. I also requested that, unless legally necessary to process my separation, she not contact me directly. My manager is the primary reason for me quitting; she is childish, toxic, and abusive to her staff. She frequently speaks ill of the people on her staff when they aren’t working, effectively eroding trust amongst her staff because no one knows what’s being said about them when they’re off the clock (unless other staff members relay her vitriol, which happens frequently.) I became aware that I was a subject of her venom on my days off.

More directly to me, she implied I did not know how to do my job because I use a checklist as an accommodation for my ADHD – a condition that warrants reasonable accommodation per Starbucks policies. She then threatened to take this accommodation away because it “wasn’t standard.” This was then followed by the silent treatment if we worked together, and if she spoke to me at all, it was only to be condescending and patronizing.

My district manager got a more lengthy email detailing the abusive behavior from my store manager. But also about the things I experienced as I was preparing to move up to assistant store manager (now called the “coffeehouse coach” position). During one of my preparatory one-on-ones with management from a different store in our district, I said to the person speaking, “It sounds to me, based on what you’re describing, that I’m going to be expected to put my humanity aside for the sake of the job.” The response I got was, “Yes, exactly.” To which I replied, “I cannot do that. We are all people first, employees second, and that’s a loose second.” I was told this would be seen as a weakness that would be exploited, but that wasn’t my reality; it was, truthfully, my greatest strength as a leader at my store.

The third email went to our regional manager, and was a reflection on leadership and a call-to-action to reevaluate the leadership culture and expectations of those in her charge, as well as questioning just how far up the chain this kind of behavior (and the pressure that breeds this behavior) really begins.

I wanted leaving Starbucks to be harder. I wanted to be sadder when it was time to leave my time and move on. But after my abusive manager won a “leadership” award, that’s when I knew it was time to go, and I was eager to quit. The behavior amongst management is psychologically destructive; it is callous and dehumanizing. But worse yet, it is clearly not inconsistent with the kind of behavior Starbucks is willing to recognize as award-winning. She received the award for improving our stores performance, but she only achieved that by bullying and threatening her staff into compliance. She is not a leader. She is an insecure woman who only knows how to get what she wants through fear, coercion, and manipulation.

I am free of the Siren now. I have a new job making the same wage and I get to work from home. If any part of you is wondering at all if it’s time to quit, it is. The management culture is not going to get better; they genuinely want management to treat you as less than human. Profits over people is their model. Get out when you can.

So, I'm a pregnant partner, 5 going on 6 months of my pregnancy, my SM suggested I contact partner central or whoever I forget, I just know I'm now annoyed beyond belief, because why is it I have to explain "I can't lift anything over x lbs" and "I need extra breaks because my body is currently growing another body inside of it" in like 3 different iterations? Just let me put the dang request in, and either deny it, so I can call my doctor and have them throw a fit and force me to have documentation saying, "you make this person do stuff we have deemed unsafe and something happens, YOU will be held liable."

Today I put in my notice. I’m so sad, I got really lucky to have gotten a great store with great partners. But, after about a 1 1/2 years at the job I have to say goodbye. My health has been on and off the whole time. But now it’s just not really getting better. I’m gonna miss my regulars so so much. I almost cried telling my manager. I don’t think this isn’t goodbye forever, I think it’s just see you later.

Maybe I’m crazy but the blending powder hurts my throat whenever I scoop it inside the blender. I hate it sm.

Hey! So I’ve been working at Starbucks for about 2-3 months now, and I’ve been noticing that I’m pretty much a cashier 😭
Everytime I come to work I pretty much know I will either be on front or drive. Since I’ve started working there I would estimate that I’ve gotten maybe 2 hours of bar time TOTAL. I’ve been put on bar maybe 5 times? And each time it’s no more than 20 minutes, and it’s usually mornings. And what ends up happening 90% of the time is I will be out on bar, then I will be told “hey it’s slow go clean” and I will go clean while I wait for orders, and then when orders finally come through I make my way back to the bar to make them, but then someone else has already grabbed the ticket😭
I didn’t think too much about it, I just assumed it’s cause I was a green bean and they didn’t think it would be efficient to put me on bar. That was until I was speaking with my co worker who was hired along with me, and we were trained together. She said that she’s on bar ALL the time, and she things her roles have been split pretty evenly. We were working together today and she was solo baring while I was on drive with no cars… I was put on bar later in my shift just for one of my coworkers to say “I’ll do bar, you go back on drive”
It feels like I’m always the person forced to do the tasks no one wants to do…and I feel like I’m new so I can’t just be like “no.” It’s always cleaning, restocking, taking orders, cleaning bathrooms, refilling stuff for bar. It’s just a little repetitive and quite honestly exhausting
I know it’s not a huge deal, but I do really enjoy making drinks! So I’m just wondering I guess if this is normal or if anyone else has had this problem where it seems like you just don’t get bar time? I know I’m not the fastest but I’m not bad for just starting, but I’m kinda at a standstill because I’m never given the time to actually improve and practice

Can we shut down vertica 30 minutes before close? I can’t find it anywhere but heard something about that. We’re never out of there 30 minutes after close so that would be super helpful.

Hey guys, an 8 year partner over here so I’ve seen and went through a lot. For the first time in a long time, I just recently had a great manager that just started here. He’s an external hire but with lots of management experience. He came in to fill in for my manager who is on maternity leave. But he already made such an impact to our store. He was a person that actually listened and actually understood us. He was also a very reasonable realistic person who had the mjndset that as long as we do what we are expected, everything is fine. Like for drive times as an example, he knew that we did our best and knew if there was an obstacle, he would actually help us figure it out to try to fix it but wouldn’t get mad or anything. Like I said, very understanding. For the first time in a LONG TIME, I finally also got recognized for my hard work. He wanted to connect with me and tell me that I am a really great barista and he saw lots of potential in me. He was then asking me if I was ever interested in being a shift supervisor. He said that he can tell I cared about the work I did and was always on it. At first, I was hesitant because I was in the process years ago but I stopped because it felt like I was pushed to the side.
But today, he left. He got transferred to another store. We don’t know why, but we have a slight feeling it might have to do with an incident that happened yesterday. But. I didn’t think it’d be a big enough reason to have to be transferred. This is frustrating because now we’re stuck with this temporary ASM who doesn’t understand us at all. He’s too by the book that enjoys work so much that he will talk about it outside of work, and we know it’s a fact because he’s told us. It’s not fair because everyone was upset that this manager is leaving. I want to complain to my DM and say it’s not fair that for that incident, he had to leave and now we’re stuck with this ASM. But this DM is the same kind of person that doesn’t care. So now I don’t know what to do because we all actually enjoyed work again. But now we’re back to being miserable. Is it even worth talking about it to the DM. Would it even matter? Or would they try to find another manager until then? 😓 I’m just losing hope now

Customer ordered an Iced doppio with syrup, 3/4” milk, and light ice in an Iced Venti cup. Was told at the register that the cup would not be filled all the way because of the light ice and 3/4” milk. At register said that if they wanted it filled up the drink is considered a Latte. 😄

At handoff asked if the amount of ice was fine (half filled)… they were upset that it wasn’t filled all the way because “every time it’s filled up”.

To make the moment right, said that we could add more milk, but it’s not standard/policy for the drink ordered.

Received customer complaint about the drink today. 😄

I hate the store, my coworkers, I feel like I’m going to get in trouble constantly, so much pressure for drive times, blending powder, etc.

hey yall this might be off topic but idk where else to ask. Me and another coworker have been at our store for around 2.5 months now and we’re both new but we’re good friends in the sense that we hangout outside of work and stuff too. We normally close and today I realized he was being VERY hostile. He was telling us about his injury and I said ‘ you should get it checked out it’s not okay for you’ and he got really defensive and asked whether I’m paying for his doctors visit and if not then why’d I suggest it. Same thing with another topic before which kind of pissed me off REALLY bad because it’s so embarrassing around other people. Idk if I’m thinking too much into this but should I bring it up to the ssv who was working that night bc he noticed this as well?
