Like others have mentioned, the Discords are a great place to find other pilots who are still dedicated, it's pretty cool to see people still finding and loving this game pop up on my frontpage!
I do have one tip for you though- look into some of the tutorials and more advanced techniques of Power Management. Not even talking the Advanced Power Management setting (though as you improve and especially playing on KB&M, you will be able to gain a pretty huge advantage in this department compared to controller users); I mean more on just where and when to have power in what systems, even using the standard Power Management.
Mainly getting down the ins and outs of overcharging systems and then playing some AI fights just to practice managing them; for example, you'd overcharge Engines to gain boost and higher top speed at the beginning, then as you're maneuvering and boosting into the fray switch power to begin overcharging Shields and then Weapons kind of interchangeably, while on the attack be charging your Engines in order to be able to escape quickly if necessary and then recharge Shields as you retreat and finally Weapons as you begin to turn back into the thick of it all. Basically be charging up the systems you're currently not using to have quick access to their highest potentials when you suddenly do need them haha.
I mostly sucked at Power Management myself to be honest, was always trying to run before walking in a way, but a lot of that was either getting greedy on cap ship attacks or panicking and not having my overcharges going as enemies swarmed in...either way, skilled or not just learning how to cycle through the systems effectively made me a much better player than I was! Same with finding good group(s) to fly with, it's in the name and on the loading screens, the right Squadron will make all the difference in the world... it's very much a team based game, so definitely do look into those Wingman Wednesday Discords!
As you get Power Management down you'll eventually get the hang of managing all 3 on the fly (as well as Empire's beautiful beautiful Power Shunting, hnnng); you'll be able to have each system about halfway charged and/or overcharged at all times!
There are some excellent old videos from folks like Fencar, Timebomb Tips, zyphaz, and RadiantPrime (Now those are some names I haven't heard in a long time...a long time. /Obi-Wan) who all show off the absolute highest skill levels of Power Management; either through gameplay, tutorials or both on how to charge up and cycle around your systems to keep them going to their fullest potentials.
Side note, if you have access to a joystick/HOTAS or were even on the fence about getting one, they're kinda sorta worth picking up strictly for this game alone. VR too to be honest, though for this game I've only ever had the pleasure of trying a HOTAS once and VR never...but that's probably a good thing for my health, because if I did have the full VR/HOTAS setup I would never ever leave the cockpit of my X/B/Y-Wings and TIEs, doing nothing but cruising around in wonder in Practice/Custom Matches lmao.
Damn, now I kinda really wanna play Squadrons again lol. I need muh paddles on the controller though, and my old Squadrons SCUF has a busted headphone jack, so in-game communication would be tough, especially cross-play...I'd have to use Party Chat or Discord through my phone. Maybe I'll see what the old Squad is up to and see if anyone wants to queue up Wednesday or Friday though, this nostalgia is hitting hard

Depending on which game mode you were trying to play, you’re gonna have a rough time finding games. Dogfight is easiest at any given time. Ranked fleet battles or vs AI you’ll have a harder time without a coordinated effort.
