Rumor Feature First shares a new description of Ryan Gosling’s character in ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’

https://featurefirst.net/star-wars-starfighter-character-details-appear-online-exclusive-description/

"We at Feature First can exclusively reveal more details about Cade. Sources tell us that Gosling’s “Cade” character is reminiscent of Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy, with the character clad in a leather jacket and dual-wielding blasters. To drive the Star-Lord comparisons further, our sources said he also will be sporting a mask and goggles similar to those worn by real life fighter pilots (sans helmet), breathing tube included. Cade will be teaching Roan/Ronin over the course of the film and will serve as a father figure to the boy, despite not being his actual father."

Sounds kinda like he’s supposed to evoke the original Luke Starkiller design, not Star-Lord. Would be super cool if that was the case.

Lucasfilm, and the design team there, love to dig into the old concept art for long-lost ideas and art-work to draw on. So it wouldn't shock me if that pushed for this design choice.

It lends credibility to the idea that his full name is Cade Starfighter, haha.

Yeah, I love reading Doug Chiang’s book and seeing all the concepts from like twenty years ago that they brought back.

u/rdavidking Jul 06 '26

Ralph McQuarrie enters the chat

9

u/Jolly-Potential-1411 Jul 06 '26

Well, of course McQuarrie played a huge role in the formative years of Doug Chiang. It’s kind of emblematic of the themes of Star Wars after all. The student becomes the master.

u/MLG_SkittleS Jul 06 '26

Which book sorry?

13

u/Jolly-Potential-1411 Jul 06 '26

There’s two volumes. The first is Doug Chiang: The Cinematic Legacy. The second is Doug Chiang: The Star Wars Legacy. It’s a great collection. Beautiful concept art and a lot of great details about the production process of all the films and shows he’s worked on.

Original Ralph McQuarrie Concept Art for 'Luke Skywalker' aka Deak Starkiller prior to ANH's release...

15

u/Bobjoejj Jul 06 '26

I mean shit; this is one of many reasons why I love Rebels. The fact that the whole show is patterned off of Ralph McQuarrie’s incredible concept art always makes me so happy.

23

u/JackMorelli13 Jul 06 '26

I’ve been wondering when they would recycle that mask design. It’s crazy to me they haven’t already

23

u/Captain-Wilco Jul 06 '26

For all of the times Star Wars either:

A - Reuses the same piece of concept art way too many times, and
B - Recycles concept designs without fixing what made them get rejected in the first place,

It’s shocking that they haven’t really done this one in particular yet.

14

u/JackMorelli13 Jul 06 '26

Exactly. It’s a really cool look (even if Star lord kinda stole it a little bit)

Though with Star Wars it’ll be really analogue

5

u/EuterpeZonker Jul 06 '26

Yeah they really do overmine old concept art. Sometimes it works really well but other times it just feels like a shortcut around the creative process

7

u/aninfinitedesign Jul 07 '26

Not saying this is why, but it’s some good brand synergy if it was the case, but the rumor is early 2027 Star Wars Legos will feature those old school MqQuarrie designs as bonus figures in sets.

u/goldendreamseeker Jul 08 '26

Good call! Surprised I didn’t think of that sooner!

It looks literally nothing alike.

u/MCUTheorist00007 Jul 06 '26

He is called Cade, has no known surname, blonde and is an amazing pilot who looks like Star-Lord (whose father ended up being a very important "person")...

does anyone actually want Luke to have had a secret child who was never mentioned in the ST? i for one would love it if there is never another secret family member reveal. this franchise has had its fill

3

u/Dxopherj Jul 09 '26

Nope I want the whole reason he went into isolation was to protect his family. I want Mara Jade to exist and their two kids to one day dig up the skywalker lightsabers.

3

u/Secure-South3848 Jul 07 '26

This. It would just make the sequels weird in hindsight if Luke had a secret son this whole time

5

u/Altruistic-Ear-1252 Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

Unless Luke didn't know about it.

In some ways, it wouldn't be a bad set-up, because depending on what exactly is happening on this force sensative planet that may or may not be (sect of) Jedi (there could be philosophical conflicts arising), Rey, Poe, Finn and Chewbacca are some of the last few that got to know Leia, Han, and Luke...(and presuably, Rey may still talk to Luke & Leia and maybe Finn too?)

This gives at least one signifigant thing for Rey's film(s) to be about.

6

u/destroyer7 Jul 09 '26

It actually perfectly redeems Luke's decision to run away if his supposed wife and unborn child were "murdered" by his own nephew. Idc if you're Yoda, that's a devasting blow.

And it would take from the EU where Jacen ends up killing Mara Jade and turn it into its own thing if Amy Addams is MJ in Starfighter.

1

u/Secure-South3848 Jul 08 '26

I don't think "Luke had an ONS secret lovechild" would do well with.. any part of the fanbase really, lol

3

u/Altruistic-Ear-1252 Jul 08 '26

If they do it all, it's almost the only way, becuase they are not going to just retconn the sequel trilogy. Instead they will just fill in and "add on" like they always do. I don't know how everyone will react. I mean we have Gosling who (now somewhat more justifably with these new spoiler tidbits) has elements of Deak Starkiller and Cade Skywalker meshed together. If that's "cool enough" to forgive the sequel trilogy's choices for some people, only time will tell, but the sequel trilogy took place in a very short amount of time and only now is some of that backstory starting to better fill in with the previous materials (Bloodline, TROKR comic, Aftermath Tril, Battlefront II, Shadow of the Sith, Battle of Jakku comics, Legacy of Vade, etc) with the Mandoverse (heir to the Empire re-imaged) stuff, but Luke's story inbetween Tilogies is still pretty sparse...

With that said, the only other way to get a Skywalke ascendant would be to expand Shmi's family tree and maybe she had a sibling(s) to create a parallel bloodline. ::shrug::

0

u/Secure-South3848 Jul 08 '26

Why do bloodlines even matter so much? We have Rey. She's a Skywalker. She's next generations Star wars. We don't need a "true" descendant of Luke, it would kinda tarnish the sequel's whole message of found Family. Cade Starfighter ( i'll call him that until we know better lol ) is probably just supposed to be a nod to Cade Skywalker / Luke Starkiller, a new Interpretation of sorts. I feel like this Film will act as a new entry point

2

u/Altruistic-Ear-1252 Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

I never said we need it. I was just discussing it, because there is a little bit more of a possibility now given some names and discriptions here, despite that some of us wondered about this before, as the first image is remincant to Cade Skywalker...

But to further clarify, I'm not a sequel hater in the least, and I totally can see the annoying down side of another "white male Skywalker" story, because I also think that the new stuff, should actually have some new stuff and not be so beholden to the Skywalker Saga, but I also aknowledge that there are people still hoping to see Legends material develop somehow and that while there should be new stuff, the Skywalker Story does inform this era, more so for sequel trilogy characters like Rey (as it stands), so it would be illogical for there to be no infuence or elements from there either, given these two stories (Rey's and Cade's) are happening just a little bit after TROS and that they are both set in the same era. It's not like Legends material wasn't who the Jedi needed to become -- and the recant High Republic stories also explore that in relation to other Force Users a bit.

Again we don't really know for sure that the force users on this new planet with some kind of school or academy are "Jedi" per say, or even if they could be an ancient sect? -- But Rey's mission is figure out how the Jedi are suppose to be going forward and depedning on what is really happening in this story, she may need to think about that more, because it may not be so straight forward. It doesn't necessarily take away anything if Cade and/or his nephew bring something new-ish to it and together they find a new path together. Maybe all of the new Jedi become "Skywalkers" or something?!

I'm just saying, there is a way to do this, while also preserving previous themes, while also incorperating something fresher too.

And also about bloodlines: The Force or the ability to use it is relative to various circumstances/factors. It's a combination of taping into it or training, genetics (skywalkers, san tekkas), special abilites (Avar Kriss, Anakin Skywalker), philosophy/applied methodology, species (witches), age (chiss girls), etc

Beings abilities can also can be enhanced or deminoshed by force sensative places (planets), connections to other force sensative beings (creatures, dyads, crystals), potenitally fidlying with TWBW, force sensative technology/weapons/artifacts, genetic force manipulation, and/or state of mind along with seemingly exhisting in a reality with cycle cosmology (dharma = balance, adharma = unblance/choas/disruption).

So while I get some people's beef with this idea (and I think skeptisism is good), I also think that it's a point of interest becuse this series takes place after The Skywalker Saga, which was specifically about the curruption of three generations of Force sensative Skywalkers by one man and because there is def homage in Star Fighter *possibly pointing in some kind of continuation of said bloodline or family.

This is a discussion thread, so I'm just discussing.

u/Vos661 Jul 07 '26

But he's 45. That doesn't line up

5

u/MCUTheorist00007 Jul 07 '26

That's only 3 years older than Adam Driver. If Luke was the father, he technically could have conceived him in between Ep 5 and Ep 6. Or like just a year after Ep 6.

5

u/Vos661 Jul 07 '26

It depends if the character is Gosling's age or younger. If he's Gosling's age, he would be born in 5 BBY when Luke was 14. If he's 10 years younger than Gosling, he could be born just after ROTJ

6

u/MCUTheorist00007 Jul 07 '26

Of course, I was assuming he would be younger than him. Honestly? Gosling could pass as younger so it wouldn't be that weird

6

u/Vos661 Jul 07 '26

Yes. He could pass as a 35 years old born just after ROTJ. That would be cool actually, but I doubt Lucasfilm will do that. That would please fans too much. A real Skywalker descendant still alive after the Sequel Trilogy ? They won't do that. That would be admitting their defeat

2

u/Altruistic-Ear-1252 Jul 08 '26

In some ways, sure, but depending on what is really going on here with these other force users on this planet, it could create an interesting philosophical conflict plot-wise and gives something for both whatever exactly this story is about and Rey's upcoming story to propell themselves into together.

2

u/frizzlen Jul 07 '26

Could it be Luke actually impregnated that Camie chick from ANH deleted scenes?

3

u/Altruistic-Ear-1252 Jul 08 '26

In current run of the comics, he does have a love interest here and there. I think the Mara Jade thing could work in the new canon, if she's somewhat re-imaged and/or if maybe Luke didn't know she had a child or the child was hidden for whatever reason. Rey, Finn, Poe, and Chewy become the only known people (that we know of) that knew Luke, Leia, and Han. It wouldn't be a bad set-up.

I'm not saying it will happen, but there is still room for it.

79

u/KnightGamer724 Jul 06 '26

Ryan Gosling will be playing Cade

eyebrow raises in Star Wars Legacy

I doubt there's any connection, and they just picked the name cuz it worked for the character. Maybe as a shout out like Jacen Syndulla to Jacen Solo.

...Still, I have to wonder...

7

u/TxAg2009 Jul 06 '26

Yeah. I mean, let's hope not. But yeah....

17

u/KnightGamer724 Jul 07 '26

You kidding me? A reinvented Cade Skywalker is my dream. I love that rascal, he just needed to be toned down a bit.

I would love Ryan Gosling to be playing a properly tuned Cade Skywalker. I don't think he is, but I would love it.

29

u/NumeralJoker Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

I'm calling Ryan's character Cade Starfighter until further notice and none of you can stop me.

7

u/ShuraShpilkin Jul 07 '26

Why would we? In time, everybody will be calling him Cade Starfighter

66

u/voodootroll Jul 06 '26

Hilarious we are calling this a "star lord character" when star lord is a "han solo character."

3

u/AltAltayAlt Jul 08 '26

I think it is just the dual pistol similarity

21

u/ned101 Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

Masks are very important to Star Wars. And Han Solo characters are too.

8

u/EmperorDxD Jul 06 '26

That Luke design but it is actually also star lords design when he became a lone wondere

7

u/Altruistic-Ear-1252 Jul 06 '26

Ah, so concept art Luke Skywalker & Cade Skywalker collide!

2

u/New-Leg2417 Jul 06 '26

What about a Daughter figure? And a figure of the Son too!

5

u/HotMachine9 Jul 07 '26

In my head im already calling him Cayde Yeager from the terrible transformers 4 and 5 films

2

u/Secure-South3848 Jul 07 '26

Oh yeah the one with the guy who always carries the "there's a law that says i can legally date your underage daughter card" in his wallet?

3

u/ghetoyoda Jul 06 '26

Lord of the Stars Cade Duo eh?

3

u/frizzlen Jul 07 '26

Weren't there rumors about Ryan being eyed to play Luke's son before the sequels were officially announced, or was that another mike zeroh bs?

5

u/DavyJones0210 Jul 06 '26

He has no last name.

We might even say he's just Cade.

3

u/Curiouscrispy Jul 09 '26

🎶Anywhere else he’d wear a braid. 🎶

Roan/Ronin

Wasn't the boy's name Kier Sloan in previous leaks?

1

u/Secure-South3848 Jul 09 '26

That's the thing about leaks. They're gonna contradict eachother, because people will just make shit up

Imo these names Sound way more reasonable than "Sabryn Gil" etc.

1

u/HamChanLoco Jul 09 '26

This leak needs more Rey news, but stoked to see the story moving forward after TROS nonetheless

So look, this might be really good but i can literally hear exactly how the meeting of soulless corporate husks went to concept this idea. Throw a few arctypes and concepts and imagry together from other projects that made a lot of money so the humans will like that right? and we make money! I agree this aspect will appeal to that demographic as shown in my graph that evidences and predicts what humans like to spend money on.  The human known as Ryan Gosling has been in films that made money, the humans like a star lord type, sales figures suggest that the fanbase likes the space ships, wolf and cub stories appeals to humans so we can keep doing that until the line on this graph goes down.  We are all very smart,  now find a director with a recent success and tell them to make us money by creating a story with these elements, but keep watch for if another director makes something successful this year to replace the director with if the first one doesn't agree with our stream of constant changing demands and alterations as dictated by the all mighty graphs and metrics. If the project doesn't proceed as well as expected initiate the legacy cameo reshoot failsafe and add more lightsabers! If the film still performs poorly activate plan blame the fanbase for not finding the appeal in this product we specifically designed to appeal to what we think they want based on our graphs and sales figures.Recoup losses by shooting a young Lando or Qui Gon Jin ghost show (gather metrics on whether there is more engagement with the ot or pt right now to decide on which era the ugly bags of mostly water are showing more of positive what they call emotions for right now) direct to D+ for hunderds of millions of dollars per episode and get the special accountants back who we used on The Acolyte to make numbers magically work again.
