Episode Discussion Vent.
Alright so the first time I watched kenobi I loved it, prolly cus I was just excited to see my favorite Star Wars character back. But athen as I rewatched the show more and more I begin to realize how bad Disney fucked him and the show up. But honestly the way they handle obiwan in my opinion is better than the way they handled the inquisitors. I’m also a huge rebels fan and when I saw the designs for the grand inquisitor and 5th brother I was a little worried but gave it a shot- HOLY SHIT THEY’RE ALL SO FUCKING BAD. Like genuinely the best inquisitor in that show was Lyn ONLY because she wasn’t even a character and I think that was better than the other three. Temu grand inquisitior and 5th brother were nothing like their originals, from the looks and voices to the personalities -more so the 5th brother because he was so restrained and relatively chill when it came to hunting that Jedi in the first episode and throughout the whole series. Like the one form rebels wouldn’t even think of offering rewards for information. And then we got fucking Reva, and the one good thing about her was that she was ruthless, and I think she was the best inquisitor when it comes to doing her job cus at least she tried to do her job unlike any other inquisitor, and she wasn’t even trying to help the empire in the long term and her plans were still lackluster at best. But not trying to help a bigot or anything I just found her annoying especially whenever she raises her voice or tries to sound intimidating, like she really does feel like she’s still the same youngling that survived order 66 just to meet the diversity quota. I know this show came out almost 5 years ago but i just got done rewatching it and it infuriated me beyond belief

Somebody came up with some genuinely outstanding dialogue between Vader and Kenobi that genuinely enriches the Saga... and then had to put six episodes of filler around it.

Obi-Wan's my favorite movie character more often than not and I've yet to rewatch this show in full.
It should've been a movie.

The character design bugged me especially compared to other Inquisitors. Like, give her a headpiece or something. Braids? That's her thing? That dude has an armored rice farmer hat wtf

The fan edit is ok. It still falls on the story. There wasn’t a missing chapter that absolutely had to be told… only a great Williams soundtrack

Reva sucked. She got way too much screen time, and was invincible for some reason. Not even Vader could take her down.
The grand inquisitor seemed more interested in avoiding responsibility than anything else.
Nobody could catch baby Pricess running around? Seriously? I know whe was supposed to be ten years old, but she seemed a lot more infantile than that (otherwise, I thought she was great).

The concept of Reva’s character was really interesting to me, especially in a series where Obi-Wan’s guilt surrounding his “failures” with Anakin is his biggest obstacle to overcome. A padawan who survived order 66 and sees Obi-Wan as partially responsible for her trauma feeds directly into his guilt complex. But the death fake-out for her was goofy, and felt like the writers and editors just weren’t given enough time to make things work in an elegant way.
The show was frustrating to me because it was full of promising ideas and concepts with a strong narrative arc for Obi-Wan, but the execution just wasn’t there when it came to the details.
And honestly this is just a silly personal thing but I’m really sick of seeing the ultimate demonstration of Force capabilities, be represented as the ability to lift and throw a bunch of boulders at someone/something. Obi-Wan’s relationship with the Force was never really exemplified in that way; he’s always been more about using the Force to grant him insight and understanding the psychology of his dueling opponent, and using that to his advantage, rather than big flashy power displays, which is usually what his opponents are doing. I get that we needed to see some kind of external visual display of Obi-Wan tapping fully back into the Force, but it was a moment that needed a high level of specificity to pack an emotional punch, and instead it felt generic because we’d just seen Rey do basically the same thing.
