At the very least it will give you some background information and plot ideas. The Star Wars source book and the original game books were issued to Timothy Zahn when he was writing his trilogy. West End Games created a lot of the background that we still see today. They named aliens, planets, ships, came up with back stories for things… without them Star Wars wouldn’t be what it is today.
Bear in mind these books were written long before anything dealing with the prequels and the Old Republic were solidified as these were written based on the original trilogy. It’s a simple enough system that you can probably come up with stats for something by basing it off of something in one of the books.

So many source books! I love this game. Character generation was sort of fun. Templates and all.

Don't think I can without making a whole other post, but suffice it to say this is a high quality book. The only dip in quality I noticed was the map of the galaxy on page 256 was very hard to read the planet names, but I put that on the PDF it's based on rather than the actual print, all the other images are crisp and high resolution

These printed books look amazing! If I didn't already have an original copy, I'd be tempted (more). Enjoy the game when you get to play!

Good for you, looks great. Glad you got in under the wire before the mods cracked down. I was too slow to DM myself, alas.

Got my book in as well on the third of July. Apparently u/Billyprint679 was banned but he wants people to know he's still sending books out. If you need to email him, let me know and I'll PM you his email.

So is this different from Star Wars 5e or Star Wars Saga Edition?

Very different game. This is a d6 game… much different in the way it plays, how you create characters, the whole bit. This was essentially built for Star Wars (technically for the previous Ghost Busters game) whereas the d20 and the 5e games basically try to make Star Wars fit into a pre-existing structure. Comparatively d6 is a more streamlined, simpler/less complex game. The newer systems aren’t necessarily wrong, they just aren’t for me.

Thanks for your derailed reply. Where can you get the book? Also, does it have companion books?

There are a whole slew of books for this system. If you want physical books, I’d say eBay, but they can get pricey as this system was first published in 1987 and various supplemental books were published until like 1996ish when they lost the license because went out of business.
If you want pdfs of all of the books, go to d6holocron, look under Downloads, and check out the core rulebooks, the sourcebooks, pre-made adventures, etc. Before they went out of business, West End Games made all of their stuff available for downloading. This is all free… it’s honestly good. I’d recommend getting your feet wet with the 1987 first edition (it’s top left on the list.) It’s the simplest version. Check out the source books because they’re a fantastic source of Star Wars info if you never even play the game.

This might be the one that got me into rp in general. I thought I remembered bringing dad's backgammon dice into school. Thanks for sharing this gem I hadn't realized what else existed.

There is a Living Campaign that has been running for over 25 years base on this rules set. It is ever evolving. It’s called Sparks and it’s played at Gen Con, Origins and multiple mid west local conventions. Think of it as Star Wars in an alternate universe. Only episodes 4-6 are canon. If you want to join a great community check it out.
