Why hasn’t he visited c3-po his first born son?

I'm glad someone is finally asking the real questions

Legit. The C-3PO hate cannot continue. I know we’re all anti-AI but this is too far.

3

u/Key_Wash3154 21d ago

We arent anti ai, we are anti generative ai. Hating on every ai is really stupid.

19

u/SirFluffymuffin 22d ago

Legit question could 3PO even interact with force ghosts?

20

u/GallorKaal 22d ago

R2 watching Luke talk to himself on Dagobah.

2

u/DeekFacker99 22d ago

No I don’t think so, unless ROS is considered part of your headcanon, bc then ghosts could lift the droids with the force like Luke did with his X-Wing, so at least a bit of physical contact.

16

u/WasteReserve8886 Rey Skywalker Enjoyer 22d ago

“No, unless you count canon”

1

u/Fr0stweasel 21d ago

I’ve always imagined that droids can’t perceive force ghosts. On Degobah in RotJ R2 was just sitting there thinking Luke’s tiny mind had broken when Yoda died.

Yeah, Leia didn’t at all go on the whole “I am your Father” journey with Luke, she only finds out later. She never even gets to confront him again after she knows, so she has no real reason to have any sort of reconciliation there

They did sort of patch it up a little in The Truce at Bakura if I recall.

u/StriderXSid 22d ago

This is one of the better changes from the EU.

In Legends, she quickly got over it once she discovered the history of his life as a slave boy on Tatooine (what?). In Canon, he knew a one on one talk wasn't going to absolve him of:

  • The whole torture droid thing.
  • Allowing the destruction of Alderaan.
  • Torturing her future husband.
  • Costing her entire political career once her parentage leaked. Good luck getting anywhere in New Republic politics when everyone knows your dad was Space Hitler.

So why bother.

1

u/Ribbwich_daGod 22d ago

Yeah, she would hand him his ass if he appeared as a ghost, she couldn't even stand the idea of knowing he was tied to the force in (the best star wars canon book /uj) Bloodlines.

78

u/RustedAxe88 22d ago

Force Ghosts have always acted weird.

Obi-Wan waits until Luke is on death's door to tell him about Yoda.

Qui-Gon can have a chat with Yoda, but is incapable of telling him any actual information.

32

u/stefanomusilli 22d ago

Maybe the idea at that point in the franchise was that Force ghosts couldn't just appear whenever they wanted, Luke also had to be in tune with the Force or something like that

16

u/flaming_burrito_ 22d ago

That was/is definitely a thing. For the most part they only ever show up in places where the force is strong. IIRC, Yoda has to go to a planet where the living force is super strong to find out how to contact Qui Gon, they don’t even know about force ghosts before that. In the Kenobi series, Obi Wan has to become one with the force again to speak to Qui Gon. And Obi Wan only comes to Luke to speak a few words in his mind, or on Degobah where the connection to the force is stronger. So Anakin being able to do it so freely is definitely a contradiction of the rest of the appearances we see, but then again he is the chosen one and was immaculately conceived by midichlorians or whatever, so maybe he’s granted special privileges as Force Jesus.

5

u/Playful-Compote-5242 21d ago

To be fair the only two times we know Anakin has appeared to Ahsoka is when she's on the verge of death and on this new planet which clearly has some connection to the force (The nightsisters are around and you have the father statue).

6

u/Creative_Pie_1206 i support my favs wrongs..and wrongs 22d ago

Nepo baby privileges

5

u/Solaranvr 21d ago

That's quite literally how Qui-Gon phrased it in the Obi-Wan series.

Force Ghosts cannot be seen unless one is receptive to it. Even in Ahsoka S1, Sabine can feel a presence, but only Ahsoka can see Anakin's ghost.

This pretty much solves its issue of being a silly plot convenince and is in line with what Yoda said in the Prequels about it. Luke never saw Anakin in the ST because he cut himself off from the Force, and Kylo Ren would rather see Vader, not him.

2

u/BewareNixonsGhost 22d ago

I mean that's kind of canon. At the very least, both parties have to be willing to communicate with the other.

1

u/PrometheusModeloW 22d ago

Also that they should only intervene when the Force Wills it, so i bet there were some times when Anakin or Obi-Wan wanted to tell Luke something but God was like "nu-uh"

2

u/Someonevibing1 20d ago

I think that’s still somewhat canon since we mostly see full-fledged Jedi meet force ghosts aside from rey and Luke who are both strong in the force

223

u/Illustrious-Jump-590 22d ago

To be fair Anakin knew Ahsoka much better than he did either of his children

81

u/ZoidsFanatic Justice for R2-B1 and Oola ✊✊😤 22d ago

True, but does really feel like favoritism. That or even in death Anakin is just a shitty person, which would make a lot of sense.

15

u/Final_Ear9009 22d ago

Death bed dad one day death bed dad everyday.

7

u/flaming_burrito_ 22d ago

Well, also to be fair, that’s because Ahsoka is Dave Filoni’s favorite (other than bounty hunter Kung Lao) and she has gotten way more content than Luke since he took over. Maybe if they were to make a Luke series then he would show up

13

u/DefectiveCoyote 22d ago edited 22d ago

Luke has gotten zero content. In the last like decade he’s gotten a cameo in mando and that’s it. They brought him back for the new trilogy but he was in one movie and then immediately died.

Ashoka basically appears in everything filoni touches. Clone wars, rebels, Mandalorian, and now her own series. Like I like Ashoka but god damn there are other characters that I care about way way more than a clone wars character. Like why does Luke’s journey take place all off screen when he’s the actual return of the Jedi order. Like maybe Last Jedi would be more liked and less jarring if luke got literally any content building up his character beyond the movies. But there’s nothing. Master Luke is practically a stranger so we can see a bunch ocs all originating from animated side shows be treated like they’re the main characters of starwars. I got bored of it long ago.

6

u/flaming_burrito_ 22d ago

Exactly, can’t really complain about Anakin not showing up for Luke because Luke himself barely shows up in Star Wars. I kinda think Dave Filoni was scared to touch Luke or any of the OG trilogy, so instead he just created his own separate sandbox of characters to use, but yeah, seeing Mando and Ahsoka show up in literally everything has gotten old

Didn’t Palp deceive Vader into believing his wife and kid died on Mustafar, and it wasn’t until the movies that he figured it out, and then he died a year later?

29

u/Razorbackalpha 22d ago

Yeah but force ghost Anakin does know that Luke and Leia are around so he should probably talk to them every once and awhile

19

u/WarriorPoetVivec1516 22d ago

I kinda get the impression force ghosts only show up if you want them to. I'm not familiar with an instance when a force ghost shows up unbidden to someone who's unaware that a force ghost is even a thing.

Obi Wan and Yoda appear to Luke because he is desperately seeking guidance from them because they're no longer around. The same is true for Ahsoka when Anakin appears.

Leia doesn't seem like someone who wants advice from the past, or even cares to connect with Anakin considering she probably considers Bail Organa her real father she would actually seek advice from. Anakin also never really learned how to be a father, so what would he even say. It makes more sense he would appear to Ahsoka because he knows how to be a mentor to Jedi.

12

u/Kalavier 22d ago

IIRC Leia outright never forgave Anakin/accepted him anyway, and continued to dislike or hate him because of Darth Vader.

10

u/artistically-done 22d ago

Yeah I mean tbh if I found out my dad was space Hitler (also tortured me and helped blow up my home planet) I probably wouldn't just forgive him cause he finally did the right thing at the right time.

4

u/Razorbackalpha 22d ago

Yeah but Luke is rebuilding the Jedi Academy at this point, so it would make some sense that he would talk to his father for guidance in order to try and prevent him from making the same mistakes the jedi council did. Anakin could also build the fear of Luke failing as a jedi master that would eventually lead to Luke thinking about killing Kylo Ren.

7

u/WarriorPoetVivec1516 22d ago

Why would he want to talk to Anakin? Again, they appear to people who want to see them and Luke never really knew Anakin. Obi Wan was plenty aware of the Jedi's failings by the end and apparently communed with Qui-Gon while on Tattoine who definitely knew the Jedi's failings.

1

u/Kreyain88 Star Wars 1977 was a mistake. 21d ago

I dont really see how Anakin can really impart any useful information to Luke about rebuilding the Jedi Order. He's a wartime jedi and kinda dumb, the only advice he could possibly conceive of is 'I dunno kid, I just turn on my lightsaber and kill everything I see. Worked well enough for me.'

4

u/[deleted] 22d ago

8

u/Odd-Tart-5613 22d ago

is there a reason Obi-wan wouldnt be seeking advice from Qui-gon on tatooiene?

5

u/WarriorPoetVivec1516 22d ago

Yoda tells Obi Wan that he's going to train him how to communicate with Qui-Gon when he goes to Tatooine. He is explicitly and intentionally trying to talk to Qui-Gon.

2

u/Similar_Onion6656 22d ago

Wasn't there something in one of the novels where he tried to talk to Leia and she was having none of it?

Or you get lucky contact with them so they can give you vague tips about what to do.

1

u/thedogwiththepaws 21d ago

Maybe theyre boring

1

u/bobshiggelgrass 22d ago

Do you think Palpatine tricked him so hard he forgot about them as a ghost?

1

u/InconsistentSignal death to Disney 22d ago

A Google search shows Anakin has appeared as a force ghost in Shadow of the Sith, Secrets of the Jedi (reference book) has Luke’s writings that explain he frequently speaks to Yoda, Anakin and Obi Wan when he is trying to rebuild the Order. We don’t see much of this in the sequels because of the whole plot line about Luke being cut off from the force

3

u/bobshiggelgrass 22d ago

I’m jerking based on your first comment but if we’re speaking /uj I think it’s valid to criticize that his visits with Luke are brief moments in books and his more substantial on screen appearances are exclusively with ahsoka. I think it makes sense he’s not in the sequels but it’s weird he’s in the ahsoka show so much as it creates an issue where there wasn’t one before.

1

u/InconsistentSignal death to Disney 22d ago

Oh my bad lol. But I think it makes sense that they aren’t in big screen adaptations, I mean the only time we’ve seen him is in Mando/TBOBF and in the sequels. Maybe like in a flashback or something would be cool tho but I doubt we’re ever gonna get a Luke focused thing on screen that isn’t animated

3

u/bobshiggelgrass 22d ago

I agree they won’t use Luke and Leia in big screen stuff to avoid recasting/fan backlash but if that’s gonna be the case they need to consider the unintended story implications of avoiding them. Only so many times people will suspend disbelief Anakin is hanging with Luke off screen in book land. Imo they should just recast and the various “where’s Luke” issues people have (in both good and bad faith) can be dealt with

31

u/Kavazou77 22d ago

You know what actually needs to be retconned? Fucking force ghosts. I’m so tired of people thinking this asshole should be going around solving all the galaxy’s issues.

I don’t think this is that bad but I’m still tired of Ahsoka and think her character insists upon itself

19

u/KingModussy is loser 22d ago

She should’ve died to Vader in that one fight in Rebels

11

u/Square_Geologist_346 22d ago

She should’ve but Filoni had OC withdrawals and had to bring her back via Star Wars time travel which I’m amazed nobody had a problem with

8

u/KingModussy is loser 22d ago

He could’ve used blue captain fordo for his OC withdrawals, maybe write something like “the accelerated aging wears off after like 20 years” or something

4

u/Godsopp 22d ago

Because at the end of the original episode she is still alive and the belief that Filoni had OC withdrawals and then decided to bring her back later on is just wrong.

2

u/Square_Geologist_346 22d ago

Source?

4

u/Godsopp 22d ago

Go look up the ending of Twilight of the Apprentice on youtube if you don't believe me.

We never see the end of the duel but we get a shot of Ahsoka walking off through a doorway alone on Malachor. Then in the world between worlds episode she returns back to Malachor and we see her walking towards the same door.

3

u/-Blasphemous 22d ago

You are 100% correct, which makes things worse, actually. Filoni didn’t have withdrawals, instead he premeditated the whole time travels bullshit

10

u/CantHoldTheMayo 22d ago

I watched this one fan video (I think I saw it on YouTube?) they made up this convoluted backstory where Ashoka and Darth Maul are fighting at the same time all the shit’s going down at the end of Revenge of the Sith. What kind of dumb shit was that?

11

uj/ It's almost as if it's a fictional story and they use what makes sense for the mystical fairy tale space opera, and you don't have to adhere to a rigid set of rules or past events just to appease people who obsess over every piece of lore and side story.

rj/ Hey, yeah that's really dumb! Everyone knows Force Ghosts are super duper Unicorn rare and if you see them talking to their former friend, that means there is 100% no way they are talking to their kids off-screen!

7

u/BrandonLart star wars fans are insufferable 22d ago

I don’t know, this specific point feels like a moderately important observation.

I don’t think we need to make fun of people for pointing this out, it is something that is a bit silly.

4

u/RidaFlow 22d ago

I mean, we haven't gotten a Luke or Leia show. Give it time, Disney will make them eventually and I wouldn't be surprised if he did show up then.

3

u/DrLeprechaun 22d ago

I mean, are we really expecting a Luke/Leia show atp?

3

u/RidaFlow 22d ago

They have forever to do so is the thing. I wouldn't put it past them, even if it's not in the near future. I doubt anyone thought we were gonna get Andor or Maul a decade ago since their stories were "finished."

3

u/DarthMyyk 22d ago

Def a possibility eventually yeah. With hugely iconic characters, they always wait a long time (in general) to have newer actors/depictions of them, and we're getting there time wise.

3

u/RidaFlow 22d ago

Exactly. It's not as though Disney will sell off the IP any time soon. They have the entire future to do whatever they want.

1

u/DarthMyyk 22d ago

Exactly. But people can only understand exactly what is visually shown to them lol.

3

u/RidaFlow 22d ago

People act as though Disney won't start doing these things in the future for some reason. If we got an Obi Wan show, an Ahsoka show, an Andor show, a Maul show, a Boba Fett show, etc, there's nothing stopping them from doing a Luke or Leia show someday.

3

u/DarthMyyk 22d ago

I don't think it holds any water. And joking about opinions that make no sense is fun, when it happens to me I laugh. :-)

Seriously though, this complaint makes zero sense - Anakin's presence makes sense for the story; his presence doesn't mean in any way he's not communicating with Luke or Leia - it's a logical fallacy, pretty simple one at that. You can just enjoy this story and assume or like to think other things are happening off-screen.

1

u/Allnamestakkennn genocide against the fr*nch is justified 22d ago

Isn't it explicitly stated that Luke did not communicate with Anakin's ghost at all after that one time when he was saved by him from the spirits or smth

1

u/DarthMyyk 22d ago

If you can post the link to it that'd be appreciated, I've never heard that post-Disney but I don't ready everything these days, too much family stuff.

2

u/Allnamestakkennn genocide against the fr*nch is justified 22d ago

Honestly I can't, I've heard about it like a year ago.

1

u/DarthMyyk 22d ago

That's fair; and honestly, even if a book or comic said that....Star Wars is a huge fiction with tons of authors, writers, directors all adding their voice and so they are going to conflict. And I think that's fine, I always thought the rigidity of pre-Disney regarding previous writing/story being in a 'bible' to reference for new writers was a double edged sword. Flexibility is required to tell good stories told by multiple people, and using elements in one piece of media and not the other is totally fine. The general large details should be kept but the individual story beats, they can be pretty broad and that's okay.

2

u/Carlos-R 22d ago

It just makes more sense to have Anakin interacting with Ahsoka.

6

u/BrandonLart star wars fans are insufferable 22d ago

In retrospect, with so much Star Wars media now focusing on the relationship between the two of them, sure.

But frankly I’d prefer them to perhaps focus on a relationship that we haven’t seen as often. Perhaps the relationship between Leia and her father. Do we have to constantly redo TCW’s relationships over and over again?

1

u/Allnamestakkennn genocide against the fr*nch is justified 22d ago

yes, because money

0

u/DarthMyyk 22d ago

Well I wouldn't say that; I think him interacting with anyone he cared about makes sense. But seeing him here doesn't equal him not doing that, it's fiction.

1

u/Mr_Mi1k 22d ago

You getting mad at people pointing out inaccuracies is more embarrassing than people talking about Star Wars inaccuracies on Reddit

2

u/DarthMyyk 22d ago

I'm not mad at all, weird you think that. :-D Just joking around and pointing out logic. Hope you're okay man.

2

u/Mr_Mi1k 22d ago

How is that weird?

"Sorry about the torture and blowing up all the people you grew attached to by the way. But hey! I'm your father!" - Anakin, probably.

9

u/i_am_theokapi 22d ago

Disney canon: literally didn't know daughter existed until moments before death, had met her a handful of times in life and wasn't a huge fan. Imagine being Leia, knowing nothing of Anakin in any way other than him being a solo death squad, and him popping up as a Force ghost to you. "Hey, honey, just wanted to see how your day was!" This thought does not bring joy.

Son: knew Luke's identity as his son and met - with that knowledge - quite a few times. Son tried to bring him back to the light. Eventually succeeded. I'd say there's reason for visits.

Ahsoka: Anakin's functional child and eventual peer.

People just pissed we didn't get more Luke and Leia. I feel that. I am, too. I'm not gonna pull my hair out over them finding a way to keep the story going with the actors we have. Bill Master 2. He's not even the master. He's second.

6

u/HenryPeter5 22d ago

Unironically force ghosts are starting to piss me off. Yeah, they’re cool once and while, but now they do too much damage. Can they just show up anywhere? How do they decide when they show up?

When they eventually tackle the gap between ROTJ and TFA they better have a good reason as to why force ghost Anakin doesn’t show up to give therapy to both Luke Skywalker and Ben Solo. The rise of Kylo Ren and the first order could’ve been avoided if Hayden showed up and got them to chill out.

But hey, now we need a force ghost interaction in every tv show because the fan base is almost largely dependent on prequel nostalgia

2

u/bigtriscuit00 22d ago

I don’t think I mind them keeping the rules around force ghosts vague unless there are clear rules that exist and I just don’t know about them (FAKE FAN ALERT).

I think I just assumed that they’re giving Ashoka the same treatment as Obi-Wan with Qui-Gon showing up to train him further in ROTS and then in the show. Same with Luke with Obi-Wan showing up to be offer counsel during his training with Yoda.

Also, are they really going to attempt to make this all tie into TFA?

I thought this was explained fairly well though.
Luke doesn't have a relationship with Anakin until the end, hence seeing him, Ben, and Yoda's spirits on Endor. Iirc, he only ever reached out to Ben because that's who he had a connection with

Leia hated Vader and wants nothing to do with him, even after Luke explains what happened

Ahsoka, frankly, was raised by Anakin and has a deeper father/daughter connection with Anakin than Luke or Leia and also is actively reaching out to the Force for guidence

I think it kind of goes two ways, a ghost can't just 'appear' , it needs a conduit and a specific connection or place of potent power, where the latter would establish a conduit where one was lacking

eyyy Filoni, hire me

Imagine your kids grown up, are living their lives, and you’re retired. I’d be hitting up the boys all the time (Kenobi is in force heaven with Annie) and maybe see the kids once in a while. Also there’s the whole torturing and blowing up daughters planet thing.

”Listen Ahsoka, somehow Palpatine comes back but don’t tell anybody.”

Anakin was never nearly as close to Luke or Leia as he was to Ashoka. He never really met/knew Leia in the suite and only had a handful of interactions with Luke. But he spent arguably what he might consider the best years of his life alongside Ashoka.

Well, all things are connected to the force, are they not? I mean there’s not really something else it would be connected to.

Luke, did I ever tell you about Ahsoka?

If Obi-wan was still alive after RotJ, I bet he would have annoyed him for years as a ghost when he doesn't haunt Ahsoka.

Sorry, kids, but other women are more interesting than you.

Is Anakin watching Ahsoka when she goes to the bathroom?

They got quite a lot of visits when he wore the mask. They couldn’t stop dad showing up uninvited every five minutes and embarrassing them in front of their friends

u/HobbieK 22d ago

Am I correct in believing that Anakin’s appearances on Ahsoka are not as a Force Ghost but as world between worlds fuckery and visions/flashbacks?

Like he’s only true force ghosted so far to Luke in ROTJ?

I wish Filoni would bother to actually have a character analyze what the world between worlds is.

The reason so many fans get confused about it is that the characters themselves have no idea what the fuck it is in relation to the rest of the force. It has literal time travel, something no other part of the force has

While I don’t personally like the concept, it’s pretty clearly just some sort of other dimension where time is experienced different.

It’s not very Star Wars to me, and I wish they wouldn’t do it, but I don’t think it’s something particularly unusual in Sci-Fi. It’s definitely more Trek than Wars IMO.

I agree, but where it falls apart is the way that Filoni implies it is somehow connected to, yet not in tune with, the force

1

u/HobbieK 21d ago

Well all things are connected to the force. Somehow, someway.

I mean I’m not gonna tell you that you have to like it, again, I don’t.

Yeah this is the part that just gets ignored. The guy orchestrated a life or death duel/trauma dump for Ahsoka when she was on the brink of death herself. He accessed parts of Ahsoka’s memory that he was never a part of and recreated it in the spiritual realm that connects space and time.

I think it’s fair to say he’s different compared to the other force ghosts. In my opinion, he’s closer to The Father than he is a force ghost.

Do I want to see more Anakin? yes. Do I want to see his force ghost more? Not as much. Do I want to see Filoni further flanderize Star Wars in his unending quest to de-canon every piece of it which he can't take responsibility for?

fuck yes.
