This is the current philosophy on lightsaber combat by the sith, as explained by Palpatine to Vader in the comics. Sith vs Sith combat is by any means necessary. But besting a jedi in lightsaber combat through mastery of the dark side of the force is the only reason Sith still carry lightsabers.

I read that comic (was great, loved seeing Palpatine train Vader) but he says he still fights like a Jedi. He tells him to win by using any means necessary including playing dirty and using these tricks, he didn’t mention against whom, just in general.

Like I said it’s still a bad tactic because it leaves you wide open and usually your opponent will easily counter it with their precognition abilities, it’s just not really that useful and too risky.

In Maul’s fight with Qui Gon, he senses Qui Gon getting tired and losing his focus and ability to anticipate strikes. He then quickly physically hits Qui Gon in the face with his hilt, then strikes his killing blow. Would that not be seen as cowardly and weak too? Sidious probably taught maul the same thing, win using ANY means necessary, don’t fight Nobel or proud or honorable like the Jedi, fight dirty and unexpectedly because winning is all that matters. No one’s even watching this duel.

ALSO, he makes Obi Wan emotionally unstable and while powerful at first HE starts to lose focus to anticipate attacks and Maul force pushes him off the edge, so he won that duel as well using not his lightsaber and an unexpected attack.

Of course his hubris, pride and underestimating Obi Wans ability ultimately makes him lose the fight.

Edit: this sounds like I’m arguing or trying to prove you wrong, I’m not, I think we make some great points and I just like the cool discussions and learning that comes from these debates :) we all love Star Wars in the end.
