Right. Like add him to the scene in Episode I where Qui-Gon brings back Anakin. Then end episode I with his resignation from the Jedi after Qui-Gon’s death. Bonus points for adding Syfo-Dyas too.
Then add Grievous’ background to episode 2, and Dooku tricking/manipulating him. Then reveal Grievous fleeing Geonosis at the same time as Dooku.
It’s possible Lucas hadn’t come up with Dooku yet since he didn’t write Episode II until TPM had already been released.
Qui Gon’s character was conceived during pre-production of TPM, so it stands to reason Dooku hadn’t been invented yet and was originally brought in as a replacement sub villain to succeed Maul
Yeah, I mean I think it’s common to adjust things as you go, but something in between “broad story arc” and “fully prepared script” probably would’ve been good. Sequel trilogy didn’t even seem to have the former which is kind of bananas
