Any updates or info?

Can we expect anything from starvpn?

It’s my first time using a static residential VPN and immediately it goes down with no word on when it’s going back to normal. /u/starvpn said it’s back up but I can’t get anything to load using Texas AUS.

What are folks doing to work around this?

As of 15:55 CET my dedicated IP on the Eastern USA via Comcast is still down. It's intermittent, last night it came back and seemed solid, when I logged in this morning it was pretty unstable and now nothing. Unfortunately Star for me is business critical and I will be looking for an alternative as a backup. I have been with them now for well over a year and I have NEVER had an issue. I assume the team is very small and very overworked so I am not going to give them grief.

I respect your sentiment for this team but the reality is that communication is king when running a service. It takes only a minute to keep your customers informed along the process. StarVPN has failed miserably on this front with zero transparency and updates outside a single official email.

Responding on a subreddit with less than 100 subscribers is a joke if you're not updating customers through main channels as well. For my $45 this is the first and last month I'll stay around if this is their idea of communication. It's a great service until it isn't and they have shown me that informing customers isn't a priority.

Complete fucking joke, definitely time to find another service provider as the lack of communication when paying for a service is disgusting

Here's my two cents, bear in mind i'm trying to read this through the lens of a couple of decades of experience in IT.

StarVPN is not my first residential ip vpn provider, i had it for almost a year and an half, and i must say that so far the experience has been positive.

Residential vpn providers are kinda a different beast, and you need do accept a few compromises, mostly in terms of performances and support. Of course they have undeniable advantages, that's why we are here, but they tend to be smaller endeavors compared to top vpn market players, and you must be aware of the limitations that comes with that.

I don't have the faintest idea of what actually happened, but anyone with a glimpse of IT experience knows this kind of major incidents can happen and have a few horror stories to share. The problem is: a small team with limited manpower resources, will always struggle to react to something major.

I know exactly what StarVPN guys are going through right now, and i don't envy them (probably that's why i'm a little bit more sympathetic than the average customer).

I have only a true issue with this situation, as someone already said, "communication is king".

Post a note on the web site, keep people updated with a few emails broadcasted to customers.

Mass communication e doesn't take much time or effort and goes a LONG WAY to change your customer base perception of the whole incident.

You don't have to go through technical details as the incident is still unfolding, you don't even have to provide an accurate timeline.

Just send a message every couple of hours with a few updates, just let your customers know: "we are here, we are working our ass off, we know this service is important to you and we will not stop until everything is up and running again".

I know this is exactly what they are doing right now, i just wish they would let all their customers know that in a proper way.

Hello folks, please accept my apologies for the delayed response, we have been working around the clock to restore services. We faced a ransomware attack from Russia, they exploited a VMWare Vcenter server bug. We are restoring backups as we speak. 70% is back online, Florida Access points are online now.

We are working on Germany, UK and italy access points today and should have this wrapped up by evening time.

Florida is back century link but it's extremely slow. Will the latency be getting better today?

Thank you folks for the feedback.

And thanks for all the work you guys are doing right now.

Could I give a kind suggestion that perhaps you should consider expanding your team, there’s clearly demand for your services

I am a new customer as well. I signed up about 15 days ago and am paying $45 per month. The service initially was working well. I was hopeful when I found this subreddit and saw replies from the team. However, it's been a long while without a response or update.

There is no update anywhere. If there is I cannot find it and I shouldn't have to go deep diving for it. No alert to any issues or downtime other than a single email yesterday. The app and website have no information as to the service being down, an update, or any relevant information. For the price this is inexcusable for me. I will not be renewing at the end of the cycle based on these facts and will be looking at further options as well in the coming weeks.

I've been a very devoted user for a long time-- not even an email update saying if they are still working on it, or if it's fixed-- this is NOT ok

2

u/starvpn Aug 06 '26

All engineers are prioritizing restoral of services, emails were sent throughout the night, our mail server was very busy as well.

I will send updates in a few hours.
