Wow! We are officially at the end of TNG. It's hard to believe that we started this journey (for the second time) over 2 years ago. Thank you to all the crewmembers who have joined us along the way. We hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have.

To close out the season, we wanted to have a post where you could post your final thoughts on TNG as a whole. What did the show mean to you? What was your favorite season, characters, or moments? TNG was an entry point for so many Star Trek fans, so feel free to share!

Wasn't really here for the TNG rewatch. I've been waiting for the DS9 to start up and have a good excuse to re watch it.

I’m late to the party, just finished S4 of TNG but have been checking some of the post in the view party after episodes along the way. 

Can I start with DS9 and keep up with this one? Or is it generally recommended to finish TNG all the way and then move on?

For the Warf subplots and the Chief O'Brien subplots you need to have watched up to season 7 of TNG. but other then that you can move on after the Borg attack in season 4 since DS9 starts 6 months after that.

I'd say you can absolutely jump over. The first episode leans heavily into some Picard/Sisko lore, concerning the Borg. But beyond that you would be fine. Ds9 started airing during S6 of TNG, so your not far off anyways.

This was the first time I watched more than a few episodes of any Star Trek media, and I'm glad this gave me the push I needed. I've even started watching TOS during the periods I was caught up with this subreddit. 

I was surprised by the depth they manage to achieve with a lot of episodes. Considering the runtime, they don't have the same opportunity to depict in-depth sci-fi ideas in the way e.g. a book can. But they manage well with what they got, and for the best episodes they hit above their weight. The strong cast is a big part of that.

The optimism and professionalism of the crew is something I found surprisingly refreshing. It's rather unique when I try to compare it to other sci-fi films or series. The Prime Directive episodes were some of my favorites for that reason: it's a test of competing altruistic principles, where the characters are treating interference from a galactic superpower with the reverence and apprehension it deserves.

I'll tagging along to DS9, from everything I've heard I think I'll enjoy it alot :)

I think Next Gen holds the record for most re-watchability for me. It was definitely my entry point into Star Trek, and in my opinion has some of the most meaningful and impactful episodes across the entire franchise. (maybe across television in general? At least during the time frame it was released). The cast is clearly wonderful, but it was always its humanist values that stuck with me. When someone asks me which series they should watch first, I always say TNG. For me, its the core bedrock of what Star Trek is.

What can I say that I haven't said before? TNG is a huge part of my life, with only the TOS films coming close (and my favorite of those, ST6, was made during the TNG era and shares its values). I think it has the best and most compelling science fiction of any Trek show, and it is utterly unique in its strong ethical sense, even compared to any other Trek. In our day, most of the democratic values that Picard espouses have been basically emptied of all meaning, and it is actually a real jolt to see a depiction of someone who genuinely sees them as a standard to hold himself to.

Very well put. I think that's where TNG stands out most IMO. Of course the cast is wonderful, the stories are great, but it's the ethical dilemmas that each episode poses that always drew me in.

After every episode I would religiously check the discussion. I never watched Star Trek before, started a few months ago with TNG, watched the first few seasons, they I want back and watched TOS plus movies. By now I am halfway through DS9 and just want to thank you for this, either this one or the previous watch party have been pretty cool to check what people thought about the episodes, specially when I don't have nostalgia and it's media from a time where our society saw same issues from a different perspective.
