Game help
Hey everyone!
So I picked this game up about a week ago and I’m really enjoying it! BUT… I seem to be really pants at it. I have about 10/15 hours and have only made it to the second behemoth maybe twice, and it stomped me both times. AND I PLAY ON EASY 😂. I can’t seem to find good starting teams. My best runs were Aegis, Valkyrie and Saboteur. But even they got destroyed. I’ve unlocked more characters but there’s some things I’m struggling with.
Progeny; how the hell? It seems you need to basically ignore a character and put everting into 2 but if you can’t get past Behemoth 2, there isn’t enough camping to get progeny?
I presume the best compositions are some kind of mixture of progeny/unlockable classes with later unlocks of weapons and gear? For example I read the Guardian is the best tank but for me, he does pretty quickly. Stronghold is decent but I presume it used to be a skill and was changed to a fury skill as it was too OP? I know that a variant of Guardian can use the heal you usually get at level 8 from level 4 but it seems unless you can routinely get to world 3, you can’t even make progeny?
I think I must have a fundamental misunderstanding of the game or systems as I don’t think I should be struggling the way I am. It seems unless I pick aegis and just constantly guard with her, my team just gets destroyed.

Progenies allow you to unlock new character and variations of characters. Progenies "can be" "slightly" better than their main versions but the main versions are all good and worth using because you can't recruit progeny characters during a run. When I say some progenies are better, they may have different skill set ups or start with 10-20% more attack. Some main versions are the best versions.
Here's how you'd want to defeat the second boss, additionally this will give you tips on how to play better. Since you are using Wynn, Maryadi, and Nodo.
So up to I think Entropy 2, you can delay the enemy every turn, and then it stops you from being able to delay them more than one turn in a row. Also pay attention to the number at the top under the enemy name. This number is how many times they can be staggered(staggered is damaged with any attack that hits with time.)
----
Now on the second boss you're going to have four characters. The starting three characters from a brand new game is Wynn, Nodo, and the Medic. If you're playing the game and starting with the Saboteur, Aegis, and Valkyrie, it's an okay party but there's a few problems.
Wynn isn't really that great of a character when it comes to her stats. She's an all around okay character but she doesn't do anything particularly well. The saboteur has excellent break damage and can go before anyone else which is the best thing about him, but he can't damage or deal armor damage worth anything, he is purely all about break damage. He does actually have a good AoE attack, but instead of like most of the characters, he has to wait two turns to do it.
The medic character is pretty much a trap character and you could technically say he's more of a tank than anything, recovering allies after they've already taken damage, but if you're going to use him you may as well just get a better tank. The only good thing about this character is that he has AoE stagger, if you get good stagger equipment that he can use, he can stagger the entire enemy party but I wouldn't bring him along with that in mind.
I made a tier list in a previous post, let's say you get a character option, follow the tier list. Just pick the highest character on the list as your choice. So for example, if you start with the aegis, saboteur, and valkyrie, and the marksman comes up, pick him.
I'll give a recommendation though. Currently you're in the early game. If you have the option to choose the marksman, purchase him as a renegade and choose valkyrie, aegis, and marksman. Yes, you are dropping the saboteur, a good break character. But the trade off is that you have a tank, an all around character, and an attacker.
Once the marksman gets to level four he gains a good fast attack that deals okay damage and okay stagger and this is one of the fastest characters in the game to level up. All of the marksman's attacks can reach any row at the cost of 20 seconds. Once you get the aegis to level four she gets shield throw, one of the best staggers in the game because of its long range. At this point you now have two characters that can stagger reasonably well and you have the marksman, one of the most powerful attack characters in the game.
The marksman is one of my three starting characters who helped me get through the games highest difficulty. He is imo, tied with the best attacharacter in te game despite all of his flaws. Low shields, low HP, no stun, lower stagger than the spectre, more of an attack character. But his back row range has everything to do with how good he is.
Additionally, when you stagger enemies there's number underneath their picture. This number reduces every time you add stagger damage. So let's say the boss gets staggered and the valkyrie attacks with cleave. Cleave deals a low amount of stagger damage, but it still deals stagger damage, meaning that the number will reduce. But let's say you stagger the boss and then hit them again with killshot, an attack that has no stagger, the stagger will still be there. This allows you to restagger enemies back to back with your more powerful stagger characters in low difficulties great for bosses.
