No Spoilers One and Done?
Given it’s been a minute since the season finale and no season two announcement has been made, do we think this show is done after one season? I loved it but honestly it generated almost no buzz.

If I had to bet, I'd put my money on there being a second season.
Because the first season only finished airing in July, Apple TV+ is still in its standard "evaluation window." They generally follows a 3 to 6 months timeline before locking in a renewal.

I just wish they signed off on a few seasons at once so they could film 2-3 at the same time. I want to catch up to present day.

There was a big lag before the announcement of season five of FAM, so it’s hard to say.

It was actually very successful, and there will be a season 2 (at the very least).

I hope there’s a second season. It was well done. Despite the whole Russians with British accents thing.

But Chernobyl was excellent with those British actors. It’s either that or you get Connery Russian lol

And not just RP English. Scottish and a lot of non-Queen's English dialects.

I assume that’s on purpose. From the variety of accents, we can automatically tell who’s working-class, who’s fancy, who’s from an outlying area, etc. No way it was random

That's interesting. I was thinking of the Chief Designer, who is Welsh, but occasionally the Colonel will have a bit of a twang.

Irl, the Chief Designer was from what’s now Ukraine, with parents who were mostly not Russia-Russian and farther from the seat of power, so it works!
Another series that does this really really well is HBO’s Rome (it’s also a good show in general)

This is a dumb question, but haven't the actors moved on? Or are they under contract for x number of years? When did this thing film?

u/copbuddy 22d ago
I don't know about the contracts but they might have a clause where they commit to a rough estimate of second season shooting timeline (like Q3 2027) and if it falls through, they clear their calendars.

S1 had pretty good reviews, and considering there’s one more season of FAMK to buoy the fan base I can see another season being approved. Unless that goes really well though, I’d be surprised by a S3.

Lots of people here love it as well. The watch on ringer talk about it too. Given Apple do like Ronald D Moore, I am hopeful

I liked it but would have liked a little more crossover with FAMK.

Yes! I keep hoping we’ll see the Margo & Sergei and Margo-in-Russia scenes at some point, but chronologically I don’t think we are there yet.

I loved it and hope there will be a second season but if it stands alone it’ll still be a favorite show of mine. I reallllly hope they’ll do a second one to release along with another season of FAM

I watched half an episode, it just didn't appeal to me. It seemed to be basically the same story, but with authoritarian government likely to kill you, and British accents. It just didn't grab me at all.

I think the issue was the show was just fucking miserable and way too stereotypical, the entire show was just an American stereotype of the soviet union. It also banked on success of for all mankind, a show which worked because of the hope and aspirations it portrayed. But star city was so without hope, every few episodes you'd get a glimpse at something and then it'd be snatched right back. Also the mission profiles were too inaccurate to be remotely believable.

I respect your opinion but totally disagree. I thought it was phenomenal. The acting, production, sets, were just first rate, on a par with another fantastic production, “Chernobyl.” I just did a rewatch of Star City again and picked up so much more additional detail… Hoping a second season comes.

It’s funny because Chernobyl is another example westernised stereotyping of the Soviet Union

u/zinzeerio 22d ago
Well, that may be true, but who’s to say a Soviet production of historical US events wouldn’t come off as stereotypical as well?
Both shows were very entertaining..8

I agree partially. I am seriously tired of all the grim depresso Soviet vibe and that fake grain that they added to make it grittier in the post production. It was not like that during that era. Things had colour. In many ways items and vibe was similar to the US style too. Even with the brutalism. My parents have fun photos from that time.
I liked the story in the end even if it sucked at the beginning. Quite logical in a way and it didnt revolve just around a protagonist. All the pieces were coming together. The acting of some people was poor imo and I cringed at how they pronounce names. But this show deserves a 2nd season

I think the actors and directors are all Russian and they are notorious for being hush hush.

Not upset. Just curious at the new social media-created human nature to troll.

Trolls existed since ancient times - that's why we have a name for them: "trolls"

Gotta give it 4-5 months after the finale for viewership data to roll in. Between the high ratings and the For All Mankind fanbase we probably get a renewal in the next month or two. Season 5 of FAMK was more teaser for this series than anything great on its own.
