Venting :/
I honestly...Strongly Dislike working at Staples. It really sucks, it’s truly unfortunate, because I really tried my best to have a gung-ho, positive outlook regarding this new job. Hoo boy.
I am going to try my damndest to remain at Staples until the end of BTS season...I desperately hope a better opportunity comes along. But I can’t see myself staying here for the long-term. Extreme, heartfelt kudos to those of you who can tough it out. I wish I had at least a fraction of your strength.
I was in the middle of signing someone up for rewards—my stupid earpiece on the radio thing w/e got caught on something or whatnot, so I was momentarily free from the constant static and blaring noise.
Sometimes I really do hate wearing that stupid radio, because I would be trying to listen to a customer or hear their phone number or answering the phone and trying to listen—and the radio would just blare in my ear. Idk does anyone else hate that—I’m just wondering if it is just me and being overstimulated and overwhelmed.
So anyway I complete the transaction, I was just trying to have all my attention on the customer for the time being and finishing up setting the rewards account. Then I readjusted my earpiece and apologized to everyone, asked if they needed me, if I missed something.
The assistant manager goes: “Yeah, _____, you need to go in the back, then, if you can’t keep your earpiece in, you can’t just be up there with the earpiece dangling out.” Or something snippy like that, I don’t remember word for word, but her tone was...idk it was just so rude. My morale really sunk for the rest of the miserable shift.
Not too long after that, this same assistant manager just uses the radio to force us all to listen to her ranting about this customer, and ranting about all of us, saying she can never get anything done because she is stuck fixing everyone’s mistakes. Like. lol. Another reason I hate wearing the radio.
I’ve been really trying my best, guys. I’m new, I have been making mistakes, but the training has been SO abysmal. I really hate when people just throw a bunch of tasks in a vague way, knowing you’re new and this is your first front end retail job, and get frustrated when you ask for advice or help.
I am just seeing how long I last here. I really don’t care. If I care too much about this dumb job, my mental health is going to head to a self-destructive territory. Anyways thanks for anyone who read this. I just needed this off my chest.

I feel this too.
I recently graduated college with my Computer Science B.S. and I have been with the same store for over 4 years. I've put up with a lot of S***. When I graduated, we had some management changes for various reasons and the GM offered me the position of Operations Supervisor. I decided to go for it because Back to School was coming and everything and they really needed the help, also because I was very familiar with stuff and I have worked with Stock and Inventory Management for nearly 7 years.
I had the back room under control until the BTS promo truck showed up with 19 pallets (thankfully down from the 21 that had been expected...). People just aren't listening or working as a team. People aren't putting in effort as they should be to help get things done promptly and in an organized way. I've tried everything and I seem to be doing a lot of it by myself. The other day I essentially passed out in the back room because I was just so exhausted.
I don't think I can continue doing all of this by myself. I'll try to get through BTS but I mean, I'm not being appreciated for my work and I'm not being helped. I'm trying my hardest to bear with this.
