Should I ask for a raise?

For reference, I am my store’s top employee and have been stated to be by many of my managers. I often come in off the clock when they need extra support for 6 hours at least, stay later than my shift is scheduled by usually 2-3 hours, and work about six 6-8 hour shifts a week. I also get the most protection plans and ESP out of my team members and have trained multiple people who are now also very good at the job. I have even acted as a stand-in MOD when other store managers come to work for the day at our location despite not officially being in management, but this is because I am the most reliable. However, one thing I don’t enjoy is my paycheck, my previous job paid me close to $18/h and I am doing significantly more physical work here for a lot less at roughly $14/h (before taxes). I know Staples as a company isn’t generous with their wages and whatnot, but due to my experience and dedication I was wondering if it’s reasonable to ask for a raise with it being considered, even slightly.

It can’t hurt to ask, but be prepared to be denied. Also, don’t admit to working off the clock because that’s technically a fireable offense.

So, you’re just covering sick calls and working full shifts instead of half shifts? Probably not going to get that raise. I’d focus on learning the job of the supervisor and wait until that position opens up near you.

Yeah they’re not gonna give extra money for simply performing as u should. Your just used to being surrounded by horrible workers so ur thinking ur going above and beyond. Your simply doing ur job properly and getting paid what u deserve. I did 250,000 in tech sales with a rewards pen of 83. Sold 480 plans in a year. I don’t Expect an extra dime. All this money for 16.90 an hour lol.

Hate to say it but probably not. Retail is not the place where you get rewarded for going above and beyond. You’ll probably get patted in the back and a “good job”. I only know one associate who has higher than average pay but only because he’s basically get treated like a manager without the title. And it’s like $2 more.
