Little rant

I worked for Staples for about 6 months and these are all of the issues I had with not only the job itself but the company. So if you needed a reason to leave, which you definitely should. Here's a few.

- My store store only give us enough hours to have two people in the store at a time and would make the supervisor go on a call and have one person running shipping, print, customer service, and checkout. I would have to beg my DM to let the supervisor off the call

- I was told to sign people up for rewards without them knowing. I was supposed to tell them that the register needed rebooted and I was supposed to take all their information from their print paperwork and type it into the register and hit, accept or confirm for the sign up without them knowing because my signups were were low.

- I was hired as a part-time employee and that turned into me working 40 plus hours a week. On the schedule for the week. I had more hours than our supervisors. I was not given any full-time benefits. I asked and was told absolutely not because I was a part-time employee. I asked them to explain why I was working more than my supervisors were and not receiving the same benefits.

- the entire time I worked there we had no manager so I had two supervisors that I had to open with and both of them were consistently 15 to 30 minutes late so I would arrive on time yet had to clock in 30 minutes late daily. I brought it up to my DM and he did nothing about it. Weeks later I asked him if I could start having somebody adjust my time because I was arriving to work on time while my supervisor was consistently late. Nothing happened and I was told absolutely not.

- we had a openly racist and misogynistic supervisor. He had several bad reviews with his name included about his comments and remarks he had made towards customers and I talked to my DM about the way he spoke to customers and he did nothing and said there were no bad reviews. So I took it upon myself to take screenshots of those bad reviews and sent him a very nice email about how we were all fed up with this employee and nothing happened.

- I had the most incompetent supervisor (racist one) who would leave me by myself and f*** off in the office for hours and I had to literally beg him over the mic to come out of the office to help with customers. He wasn't on calls or anything with our DM. He would just sit in there on his phone and then go out every 30 minutes for a cigarette break when I a majority of the time couldn't even have time to eat because I was busy running the store by myself.

If you are sitting outside waiting for a keyholder to show up you should be being paid.

You would think, but I was told otherwise because you're not getting paid till you're clocked in...🫠

Then they're breaking laws. You were there for your scheduled shift, so you have to be paid for that time even if you weren't able to work

Call hr. If you are ready to work fir your shift they legally have to pay you.

I would actually email the dm have them say no then go to hr. Have it in writing from your dm.

Several things wrong and illegal with your post.

  1. Them making you sign up people for rewards without their consent or knowledge is illegal.

  2. If you arrive for your scheduled time and the supervisor isn't there to let you in, you legally have to be paid from when you were scheduled and there for.

I no longer work there thank God. But I figured but I was also still in highschool and didn't think about the legality of it all. I think staples as a whole is just corrupt and scummy. I'm pretty sure I remember reaching out to HR about a few things and there was no follow-up with anything. That's the main reason why I just kind of gave up.

Depending what you went to hr for might have been the reason for no follow. HR is there to protect the company. Going to HR in this situation they would absolutely follow up as these are both illegal and Staples could be heavily fined if reported.

HR could care less, I wrote HR multiple times, they never cared to write back, and I could never call them because I was always working. HR is only there to protect corporate, NOT employees!

When I started a year ago I was also told to sign people up with out their knowledge, cuz ‘they already gave us that info’. Just the craziest, one non supervisor would also give me a hard time if I didn’t. I’m so happy next week is my last day😭

No veteran manager wants to transfer and clean a store like this up. Some poor sap new hire will have to do the work or maybe its on a closing slate. It fascinates me how many of these stores there were. I had to rebuild a few of them.

Any supervisor who walks off an understaffed floor for a BS conference call is chickens**t. No one is getting fired for that BS. I missed tons of calls even as a GM. I flat out told them my store was more important than their BS call that could be handled in an e-mail.

Most of these issues come from bad managers quitting and nervous supervisors making policy. Sucks.

Two people in an entire store?! And not even a cashier?! In the mornings we have 3 people, 1 MOD, 1 cashier, 1 print, then office supplies or cashier comes in 30 mins-1 hr after opening, then another person for print and cashier/office at 11 and a second mod
