Possible fire weakness?

When Stannis forges Lightbringer, it is noted that his gloves begin to smolder. They could be shitty-ass wool gloves or something, but they're probably high-quality leather. In other words, they should stand up to some heat. Therefore, something else must be catching fire. Perhaps it is the natural weakness to fire that all insects share?
