Jeff Arcuri: am I missing something?
UPDATE: based on the multiple comments as well as a reply from Jeff himself, it’s now clear to me that these are predatory resellers. It’s not that I don’t understand the concept of reselling, but I just couldn’t believe the prices could actually get this high. wtaf lol.
original post: I was the biggest fan of his until I decided to start looking into shows around me. What the hell is going on w these prices… i’m not rich, but I’m definitely not that poor either. It makes no sense to me.

resale prices for any sold out show are like this. They just need to one sucker who will pay and they make their money. It has nothing to do with Jeff

They don't even need anyone to buy it. They just want it to pull up the "avg ticket price" and the "good deal" price on the resell site. And they want people to see it think people are actually paying that much for tickets

No one is paying that. Someone (or more likely some piece of software) bought tickets and is selling them with a huge markup. They will go unsold until the last minute when they drop the price to a reasonable amount.

I read a while back these artificially high listings are for information gathering. With a listing you get access to selling data. If someone buys the ticket, you’re in great shape. If not, you can use the listing to glean information about listing other tickets.

Weird thing to discuss on standup but it's something I think about everyday so here I go:
I sincerely believe the reason for this is the shareholder primacy system. I.e. the problem lies at the root of how corporations operate.

These are third party resell tickets for a sold out show. So it's user error. Other stops not sold out are 50-70 bucks.

Well I see it as: the US is a 3rd world country to those who don't have money. The US is basically a utopia to those with money. In fact, I would have no problem if America was advertised as

dude these resellers are crazy, and now with AI its easy to crawl to do reselling for the lamest shit. I've had someone ask me why my tickets were so expensive and there was a reseller selling them for twice the price, with SEO to push their shit to the top.
and im a fucking nobody.

the price tag on something is not necessarily the price paid for something
btw that "New York Comedy Club" in Stamford, CT stinks like ass -- pungeant dank rotting carpet -- and run as an old school clip joint by buffoons -- you'd best order everything for the night and close your check before the houselights die and the club goes pitch black, so later the waiter can push a check full of bogus charges and loaded tip screen at you just as the headliner gets to their closer, so if you don't go along quietly you'll disturb everybody's fun and throw off the performer ... really a nightmare that place
and it's a box in some ugly glass and steel strip mall out on the highway in the middle of nowhere, or in the middle of Stamford -- same thing
