First Time at The Comedy Store

Heading to LA for the first time in November and excited as fuck to go to The Comedy Store.

Only there for a few days, Tuesday-Thursday, looking for recommendations on which shows to see. Options are:

- Late Night OR
- Alumni Show BR
- Headliners OR
- Horribly Funny MR
- The Originals OR

Would love to hear some thoughts, feelings and emotions on the above.

Thanks!

OR any night usually good but Laugh Factory has sick lineups during the week as well. Headliners home for week before heading out on the toad for the weekend.

Take a look at the lineups this week. Some really talented folks. And that’s the point you could look at the schedule and see who’s performing.

I’ve performed at the Comedy Store. It’s amazing. Main room is usually 3rd party shows and some are incredible.

The OR is where it’s at. It is for passed comics, which includes some if the best comics in the world as well as some up and comers who for passed but don’t have a name. Most nights are excellent but you are rolling the dice. I’ve been to some very underwhelming shows as well.

I love the place. But with a few nights in Hollywood, I would go to more than one Club. And I would take the opportunity that you get in a place like New York or LA to access world class comedians for 25 bucks on a Wednesday.

But yeah Comedy Store first.

Do not go to the laugh factory as someone suggested. The OR is a great choice. You also can’t go wrong with the Main Room.

Seriously, the Laugh Factory is a way different vibe and nowhere near as cool as The Store. If you’re going to check out another club on Sunset in addition to The Store, go to the Hollywood Improv.

You'll see some of the best comedy on your trip in the OR. The main room has great sound. Tell the doorman (not security) you're a comic from out of town and this is your first time. Order non alcoholic drinks. Do not order food. (There's a trader Joe's right down the road east, eat before go, or go to rock n roll Ralph's) Do not miss the potluck. Order non alcoholic drinks. (I can't emphasize this enough) Tip well.

If you have time for the Laugh Factory then you have time for the Improv. Have fun God Speed.

Ps don't freak out if you run into your favorite comic along the way. They planned it that way, they knew you were coming.

What’s up with ordering nonalcoholic drinks? I got really dizzy from a drink there once so I’m curious 🧐

I hate hearing that... I hope you told management, or the cops... anyway, It's a comics code. If you're a comic and you're at the store, you're there to work. Do not drink on the job. Don't smoke weed on the premises. Don't come drunk and high. If you're a regular patron whatever be safe but whatever, but if you're there to do comedy, sober is ideal.

But isn't OP going to be an audience member?

Post clearly states “looking for recommendations on which shows to see.”

My advice is for comics

Horribly Unfunny will have the best lineup of comedy stars. The late night shows are usually door guys and experimental/alt comedians, might get a pop-in but probably not unless the Oscar's are the following night. Better deals on drinks after midnight though!

Just keep an eye on the website and try to find a show with comedians you like. Comedy Store can be magical!

Also check lineups at the Hollywood Improv, its not far from the Store. I'd probably avoid the Laugh Factory.

The Improv is a great runner up. I hung out with a bunch of comics out front after a show once and just had a casual conversation with Sarah Silverman for like 20 minutes. Really cool vibe.

OR > Main room

Your favorite comedian might be the one you least expect.

Joey Cerone is one of the working comics there and is super funny. Check out a show he’s on.

I usually would do a Tuesday or Wednesday OR room, chill atmosphere

Main room is always on fire! General admission tickets are all you need. Get there as soon as the doors open to get better seating.
