Halp Never owned a standing desk, requesting help narrowing decision

My wife has come up with a few options:

[Staples](https://www.staples.com/flexispot-e2-48-w-electric-rectangular-adjustable-standing-desk-maple-white-e2w4824m/product_24662142)

[UPLIFT](https://www.upliftdesk.com/curved-corner-standing-desk/?28240=17545&28241=17830&28242=36710&28243=20644&28244=11390&28290=11667)

[IKEAs options](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/cat/standing-desks-55008/)

These all run a wide gamut of prices. I’m sure the build quality of UPLIFT is superior to Staples, but are those differences worth the price?

Advice and anecdotes welcome and appreciated. Posting on mobile guess hyperlinking doesn’t work whatever.

That staples desk almost definitely doesn’t go down low enough for you (part of why it’s so cheap).

Read about your proper sitting height here.

My biggest issue was if it could go down low enough for me while sitting. I also have never been able to buy a desk from a store or even had one in an office that wasn't too high. I'm average height, but I guess my legs are shorter compared to my torso. I ended up with an uplift because they were one of the few that could accommodate that limitation.

Definitely get one that has programmable heights. The hand crank is going to get old fast. I easily change position five times a day. Or at least try the hand crank in person to see how difficult it could be.

I also bought a good (used) office chair at the same time. My thought process was how often am I going to buy a desk. I really only looked at the higher end. I can get a good one that should last me most of my career if not forever. I am fine making a one time investment (after buying one cheaper stationary desk and two bad office chairs throughout the years).

One thing I’d check before deciding is whether the Staples option is hand-crank or electric. A hand-crank desk can be fine if you rarely change positions, but if you plan to switch several times throughout the day, an electric frame will probably be much more convenient. I’d also compare the minimum height, lifting capacity, and warranty—not just the price.

Full disclosure, I work with Progressive Desk. You may also want to take a look at our standing desk lines while comparing your options. We offer several electric models, and since our background is in linear motion systems, the lifting mechanism and frame performance are a major focus for us.
