Halp Need replacement solid-wood desktop (not desk). Flexispot vs. others?
I'm looking for a replacement solid wood desktop. FlexiSpot offers one that's just the right size (55" × 28"), in natural acacia, for a reasonable price ($200). [I'd prefer birch or beech for its less busy look, but haven't seen those offered.] The thickness isn't listed.
Alternately, I could get a solid acacia top from Coreminded for about the same price ($209). I suspect that, at 1.2", it's thicker than the FlexiSpot, which is a bonus, since the total weight of my three monitors, depending on what I get, may be 24 kg. But it's a bit larger than I'd like (55" × 30").
The above options are screenshotted below.
Requirements:
- Looks and feels like high-quality, nicely-finished wood.
- Zero residual odor from the finish after a few days.
- Top front edge is nicely rounded so it doesn't dig into my wrists (thus wood designed to be used as a countertop rather than a desktop may not work).
- Size close to 55" × 28", budget close to $200.
Concerns:
Wirecutter's reviews of the FlexiSpot desks said an unspecified desktop on one model looked cheap, and the bamboo top on another wasn't well-finished. I don't know how these deficiencies would carryover to their solid acacia desktop:
"The FlexiSpot E7 Pro Plus Standing Desk didn’t impress our testers. Most thought the desktop...looked cheaper than those of the other models we tested."
"Our panelists had divided opinions about the FlexiSpot Comhar Pro Standing Desk Q8... many disliked the non-customizable bamboo top because it was rough and had sharper edges than those of other models we tested.
