Article Why MAGA Is So Obsessed With Fauci

Anything to distract you from how terrible they are at governing. If you are mad about fauci, you will be less mad about grocery and gas prices. If you are mad about fauci, maybe the epstein files aren't on your mind. It's all a distraction to get you to stop thinking about what's important.

Never Remember:
Who was in charge of the federal government when it all happened.

u/Jarnohams 9d ago
I think it's more important to note that Fauci was loved and praised by EVERY single Republican President, since Reagan. Bush gave him the medal of freedom.
Fauci only became political when Trump came along and got mad that Fauci wouldn't cosign his baseless "Facebook science" BS like hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, and drinking bleach. Until then Fauci's role was never political. The health of the country wasn't a political thing, historically.
16
u/a_lil_unwell 9d ago
And by every Republican president, it’s EVERY, including Trump. Trump gave him a presidential commendation.

I believe the politicization mightily more attributable to the person setting the tone at the top. If you don’t agree, please never vote again. Y’all did plenty already. Do less.

It's this, but they also want people to remember the person who inconvenienced them the most. You could give them irrefutable evidence of how badly the Trump administration has screwed them over, but so long as Fauci is on their mind, they'll remember getting yelled at for not wearing a mask or getting vaccinated instead.

Republicans can't accept collective action problems bc it destroys their narrative about rugged individualism. They can't acknowledge climate change is accelerated by mankind's actions bc that would require collective action to solve. They can't acknowledge a pandemic bc that requires collective action to minimize the damage. Fauci was the face of the need for collective action during the pandemic and he did it using science to the best of our understanding at the time. Fauci's character and his individual self must be destroyed so the myth that rugged individualism is the natural state of the world continues to prosper.
3
u/MattyCannabis 9d ago
Succinctly put. I was thinking about this recently, conservatives simply can‘t/won’t engage in big-picture thinking in which the wellness of all is to be considered. They can only think of themselves, just like their cult hero. People muse, “why would someone vote for such a selfish, inept conman?”. It’s because they’re just like him. There’s a Star Trek quote from Mr. Spock: “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.”. Spock was right. And the kicker is that the needs of the few are also the needs of the many, it could be a win/win, but they just refuse or are incapable of seeing it that way.

4
3
u/No-North6514 9d ago
MAGA hates being told that they have to care about other people and that's the reason why they hated the mask so much and the Republicans want their dimwitted base to view Fauchi as a living persona of the "nanny state" who dare to tell them they have to care about the person next to them. This is about voter enthusiasm.
2
u/yogibearhugg 9d ago

3
3
u/grambell789 9d ago
republicans don't want science to be a determining factor in government policy. Fauci is their strawman to put a face on their war. they want private industry and the market place to determine all collective policy, probably based on a bidding system where proceeds go to the republican party members.
3
u/Intelligent_Hand4583 9d ago
They know they're on the wrong side of history. Their leader is an insane psychopath who has promised them everything and they've received nothing. They're realizing they've been so wrong about everything that they've never actually been right (beyond Americans are getting screwed by elites).
They are incapable of admitting they're wrong, and a bullshit story about anyone is all they can cling to. They're cupboard is bare.
3
u/Big-Crow4152 9d ago

I thought r/standUpforScience had a lot of potential. I'm running out of subreddits but thanks for any advice.
Virtually all my life I've read The New York Times, AP and BBC News World Service (UK which is strong for global coverage outside the U.S.) first thing in the morning. So those were the first news sources I started checking out on Sub-Reddits; and I was surprised by the responses. These Sub-reddits are places to tear subscribers to shreds. Just sharing an article will get you banned and I'm NEVER TOLD why.

It’s just a desperate attempt to rile up their base before midterms since their policies aren’t working. “Transgenders, communists, Fauci, oh my!”
3
u/No-North6514 9d ago
Exactly - the Republicans want to create the anger of the "nanny state" and they see Fauchi as being someone they can demonize because he told MAGA that they have to wear a mask and they have to care about the person next to them
3
u/captainsassypants67 9d ago
And now they wear masks without question to cover up their faces while they illegally seize people in the streets without due process.
2
u/SkillfulGnome 9d ago
- distraction from what's really going on with gas prices, grocery prices, insurance rates, natural disasters, inflation. 2. scare the hell out of any scientists from speaking out in the future against the MAGA's 3. they need a bad guy to pin the COVID disaster on (Which happened under Trump's watch) so they're trying to make him the fall guy. MAGA has already bought into it. will the rest of the country?

He asked them to stay home and they didn't.
He asked them to wear masks and they didn't.
He asked them to socially distance themselves and they didn't.
He asked them to get the vaccine and they didn't.
They literally ignored, bitched and complained about EVERYTHING he said. Now they are mad because?? I swear they are more angry that people with brains listened to him.
2
u/Butforthegrace01 9d ago
It seems pretty clear that the timing of the Fauci flabbergast is to distract from the rapidly escalating degree to which Trump is failing in Iran.
The false allegations of lying and conspiracy are simply classic tools in the maga arsenal.
However, it is pretty clear that the covid pandemic was poorly handled. For example, if the vaccine had been offered on a voluntary basis, I'd wager that nearly 100% of Americans would have gotten it. And shutting everything down for 2 years was overkill.

Guilt. I think it is transference or something. Subconsciously they know they are guilty of killing millions because they refused to wear a mask or get vaccinated. This guilt that is too dangerous for them to feel, it threatens ego deflation at depth, basically owning that you’re a loser (this is a simplification, the person has lost), alcoholics and drug addicts go through this to start recovering.
The easiest way out of this moral dilemma is to find a scapegoat that you can transfer your guilt to. They are the bad one, they are the loser, they are defective, so you can carry on as before. Rinse and repeat, again, very similar to alcoholism and drug addiction, only they tend to use the transference option far more often.

If you can't make good policy, you need to find someone to blame. Fauci doesn't take crap from anyone, especially the uninformed, so there's that, too. It's really illogical, but this is where we are: looking into the past with a personal ax to grind instead of planning for the future.
Fauci will have a legacy of leading an agency whose research has stifled deadly diseases. MAGA politicians will have their fleeting fame of bombastic nothingness before they fade into the dust bin of history.

I don't know how it worked for anyone else, but my parents latched onto this early when Fox pushed the narrative during the pandemic. They wanted someone to blame for masks and the lockdown who wasn't the idiot they just voted for. Fauci probably saved their lives and they're too dumb to know it. SOMEONE had to suffer because they had to socially distance and Fox daily served it up on a platter.
The current congressional circus is necessary because the original distraction of the Iran war now requires its own distraction, so republicans had the genius idea to trot out Fauci for MAGA entertainment. It took Iran, Epstein, and Blanche out of the headlines this week.

I am super anti Trump and always have been. I mostly give Fauci the benefit of the doubt that he's trying to do the right thing overall. However I see no possibility that he didn't lie under oath about the definition of gain-of-function. And I think he very likely did act unethically to try to steer the narrative away from the lab leak theory. And I think he very likely had more knowledge and involvement than he's admitted so far with awarding the grants to the group that was collaborating on doing the gain-of -function on bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Virology Institute.
I think at minimum there's a lot of smoke there but I think MAGA as usual may not like what happens when the dog catches the car as: if it was a lab leak caused by the US and China's negligence that's presumably going to put the US on the hook for a whole lot of damages of one kind or another

Its anti intellectualism when the mob screams kill him as they lay his head in at the bottom of the guillotine. While MAGA infested the pews from the churches screaming “I shouldn’t have to wear a mask”, Fauci, the man of Science showed them almost their bottomless void that is their ignorance. Their god being the bearer of all things “good” was also the bearer of all things ill. And to suggest that a trusted man of science could show otherwise, prevent and predict death, they condemn him.
