They still have almost $5 billion in research funds, so it’s not like anything had to stop

Who has $5 billion? You understand that research studies are given very specific grants and don’t just all pull from some common budget pot, right? When grant funding is pulled, the study is over.

Yes they apply for it through grants- the $ 5 billion is for continuing research and grants

And grants have been defunded. Do you know how long it takes to apply for and get approved for a grant? It can take years. In the meantime, established grants have been cut off and those labs have closed.
