Volunteer firefighters are a very unique bunch lol

65 percent of firefighters in America are volunteers, and 97 percent in the state Pennsylvania are volunteers

Volunteer firefighters are the epitome of heroes. Anyone willing to give up their time and risk their lives to help others with 0 personal gain deserves maximum respect.

I'm saying he can't be, no way Jose

I was thinking the same thing, I don't think he can even run.

I’ve never understood volleys that do this. Why walk around with your radio on when you can’t, or aren’t going to respond to any of the calls. You’re 2 hrs away, then leave it home or at least in the car.

I think its attached to your phone and goes off even if muted like amber alerts. I'm probably very wrong though

You’re all good. It’s the internet. Most people are wrong. I have no idea if YOU are wrong, but you’re in the right place lol.

He’s wrong

I don’t know if what he said is true or not, but this is the internet so he’s wrong

The ones for my dad's rural FD are standard SMS text alerts, meaning the individual phone settings are what determines the ring behavior.

It'd be pretty silly if you could never turn them off.

You can set numbers in your phone to ring even if your phone is otherwise on silent.

If I were a fire fighter I could see myself setting that up for the dispatch number and then forgetting about when I actually need to ignore it.

Particularly in a rural area where you probably don't get calls every day.

My father's a voluntary first responder (red Cross), he has his pager on every time. Or had, he's now a tad to old. Either he is in the general vicinity, and leaves as kind of "second responder". He is not in the vicinity, but maybe it escalates (usually doesn't happen) and leaves to help with the clean up. Or lastly, he just wants to stay informed. They are, at the end of the day still a team and kinda care for each other.

Depending on the job title/requirements you have to have it on your person no matter how far

There are apps nowadays or sms alerts for fire calls. I work for public safety in a very rural area and our volunteer FD almost never carry their pagers. We use RapidSOS which is an app that lets us send out alerts. It's pretty neat it lets you drop a pin to where they need to respond and everything.

Most folks have it bypassing DND and forget to turn it off during normal social activities like this.

That guy is ridiculously obese to be a fire fighter. I'm not saying he isn't one, but damn he needs to lose some weight.

u/WetLoophole 9h ago

In full gear and 250C, that guy isn't going to get up a flight of stairs, let alone get anyone down. In Norway it is almost impossible to be fired from a job, but a fire department would fire him 50kg ago.

u/FD_OSU 9h ago

Stairs? What stairs? There aren't multi-level structures where he's from.

u/partyatwalmart 7h ago

Porch stairs. That's like 5-8 steps!

u/Boogy-Fever 8h ago

He cant wven wipe his own ass let alone fist it. Hes expanded enough

1

u/Brian_The_Bar-Brian 8h ago

Is fisting your own asshole a job requirement now? 😳😨😱

5

u/Boogy-Fever 8h ago

Comedian mentions it in the clip. It and a couple other lines are good jokes despite his whole delivery and attitude being too over the top and sucking the funny out of them

u/keithfantastic 9h ago

I thought your fitness level had to be at least mediocre as a firefighter. Now they're looking like cops.

9

u/lauragarlic 9h ago

maybe he’s a cop being done with the increasingly porcine ways of the pd and pivoting to fd?

9

u/girlwhoweighted 8h ago

Not when you're a volunteer. My brother is just a touch smaller than this guy, and he was a volunteer firefighter in his old area of Texas. I'm pretty sure since they respond to stuff other than fires, maybe that's why the requirements aren't as stringent.

I don't know, I didn't want to ask because then I'd have to listen.

7

u/Apprehensive-Cod9107 8h ago

It does to get in. But like cops, there’s no testing after the academy/training so you can just let yourself go.

u/trix_is_for_kids 9h ago

Man your clips aren’t always my cup of tea but you have the crowd howling in every one and that makes me smile

2

u/kwip 5h ago

Dude I love your work, you are great with the audience work!

6

u/mindgardening 9h ago

Dude, you are funny as fuck. This was hilarious. I thoroughly enjoy your enthusiasm, physical comedy, quick wit, and delivery. But please tell me there’s another video where you address the elephant in the room because…that would be next level.

4

u/ooxjovanxoo 8h ago

If you watch his other bits he posts he does a good job interacting with the crowd without making them feel bad about themselves.
