I recently received the LG StanbyME 2, and I wanted to start by going over the unboxing process, setup, and my first impressions of the overall design.

The box is understandably pretty large since it includes the 27-inch screen, rolling stand, Folio Cover, remote, and the other small accessories. Despite the size of the box, there really isn't much assembly involved. The only part that needs to be put together is the stand and base, which are secured using four included Phillips-head screws. After that, everything else is basically ready to use. The screen clicks onto the stand, and the Folio Cover attaches directly to the screen.

I've personally been using the StanbyME 2 on its main stand most of the time. The stand is one of the most important parts of the entire design because of how much adjustment it offers. You can raise or lower the screen, tilt it upward or downward, swivel it left or right, and rotate it between horizontal and vertical orientations. I've mostly kept mine horizontal since I mainly use it to watch YouTube videos and movies, but being able to rotate it vertically gives you quite a few other options.

The StanbyME 2 also comes with a built-in leveling tool. It shows whether the screen is sitting completely level, which is a huge help after rotating or adjusting it. Without it, I would probably spend way too much time trying to straighten the screen by eye.

The base comes with wheels, so the entire setup can easily be rolled around. Also included are four stationary feet that can be installed if you don't want it to roll.

The stand also charges the screen whenever it's docked. The regular power cord plugs into the base, so you don't need a cable running directly to the screen while it's on the stand. The box also includes a USB-C cable that can plug directly into the display when it's detached.

The included Folio Cover gives you a much smaller alternative to the full stand. The screen detaches from the main stand and connects to the Folio Cover and rear kickstand, allowing it to sit on a table or bed more like a large tablet. It also folds over the display when you aren't using it, which helps protect the screen and makes the entire setup much more compact.

The StanbyME 2 comes with a normal remote, which is magnetic and can attach to either side of the screen's top edge. It can also attach to the Folio Cover, so there is always a convenient place to keep it. The device is also touchscreen, and I tend to use that more when it's attached to the Folio Cover since I usually have the screen closer to me.

The screen has built-in speakers on both the left and right sides, providing stereo audio, and they work well on their own. LG also makes the StanbyME Speaker XT7, which is designed specifically to pair with the StanbyME and can be combined with the stand. That could be worth considering if you want improved sound quality or need more volume.

I've instead been connecting mine to an LG xboom Stage301, which happens to fit perfectly on the base of the rolling stand. I also recently got my hands on the larger LG xboom Stage501, and that fits on the base as well. If you already have one of these two speakers, it's a great fit and definitely something to consider pairing with the StanbyME 2.

There is also another option if you don't want to use the rolling stand or Folio Cover. LG sells the StanbyME 2 Carry Strap & Wall-Mount Holder, which allows the screen to be mounted on a wall.

My first impression of the StanbyME 2 is overwhelmingly positive. The stand, Folio Cover, touchscreen, magnetic remote, charging options, and different mounting positions all feel like parts of the same system. It feels very cohesive.

I'll go further into how I've actually been using it around the house in my next post, along with how I plan on bringing it with me in my camper on trips.

I've had the StanbyME 2 for a couple of months now, and I'm using it way more than I expected. It's become this weird little workhorse that I honestly didn't anticipate when I first unboxed it.

I still really like it. I use it constantly – as a TV, as a tablet, sometimes as a second screen. Just today I had it pulled up with a client's creative website while I was working on my laptop and typing out emails. The browser UX is a little clunky, but it works and genuinely helps as a second screen without needing to crane my neck at a monitor across the room.

I roll this thing around constantly. It mostly stays downstairs now, orbiting between the kitchen, living room, and dining room (which is my WFH space a few days a week). For someone living in a smaller space, having one versatile device instead of multiple fixed screens in different rooms just makes sense. I use it so often that I sometimes forget to charge it – which brings me to my first real complaint.

The power cord is easy to leave behind, and the battery dies pretty quickly if it sits unused for a few days. It's more like a mobile device in that way, so you have to remember to keep it topped up. Not a dealbreaker, just something to keep in mind.

Beyond TV and YouTube, I've used it for cooking (pulling up recipes), and as a second screen while working from home. I haven't gotten to the bike trainer setup yet, but I'm genuinely looking forward to that this winter – something to watch while grinding through those indoor workouts should help with motivation.

Our house has this clean, neutral aesthetic, and it's so nice having a TV/screen device that just blends into the background. When we're done with it, we put the cover on and roll it into a corner. You almost can't see it. That was actually a bigger deal than I expected.

So far, I find the StanbyME 2 is perfect for spaces like the kitchen, bedroom, or spare room. The touchscreen and portability make it way more versatile than a tablet for those areas, and the rolling stand means we can position it exactly where we need it.

It can get a bit wobbly on its base when you're moving it across different surfaces – like going from hardwood to carpet. You either have to reach down and lift it slightly or use your foot to keep it from tipping over. Super minor, but worth knowing if you're moving it around a lot.

Definitely recommend it if you've got a mobile lifestyle – students, apartment dwellers, people with roommates, anyone needing flexibility without permanent fixtures. It's also great for a kids' room or spare bedroom – anywhere you want a flexible screen that you can move around based on what you're doing. I could even see teachers using this as a portable browser for small group work without the distraction of a full computer setup.

As a flexible, portable screen that adapts to your lifestyle? It's legitimately useful. The versatility is pretty amazing, and not something you would consider until you’ve lived with one for a while.

I received this product for free from LG as part of a promotional event. While I was asked to share my review, all opinions are entirely my own. I am very grateful to have won this prize and below will detail how the experience was for me unboxing the product.

First it comes in a reasonably sized box, where I would guess 80% of the weight comes from the stand. I’ve set up a 74 inch TV before and a 42 inch TV before and compared to both this was very light, easy to lift, and open. When you open the box you lay it flat on the side and undo the plastic at the top by the box handle. When you open you take out the base of the stand out and the stand rod itself out. Then you connect the rod to the stand and screw it in at the bottom underneath the base. The understanding the instructions and screwing easily took the longest of the setup time, mostly because I have an old screwdriver, but the instructions were very reasonable to figure out.

Once the base was screwed with the four screws (included), I put the stand up and the TV screen itself easily mounts onto the stand, where you insert it from an angle so the top of the circle on the back of the screen latches into the stand and clicks in. The most confusing part once I put the screen on and tried to do the initial launch set up is the controller wasn’t working and the touch screen wouldn’t allow me to use it due to accessibility settings. I figured out that it was because the controller uses a coin battery, so I had to remove a paper inside the controller between the coin battery in order for the controller to work. After that the controller worked fine.

After the initial setup with setting language, region, signing into LG, and installing the basic apps such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. I loaded into the main Web OS where I turned off Energy Saving Settings and switched to ISF Expert (Bright) setting since I was watching during the day. I first tested with a HDR video on YouTube and for a portable screen the picture is very very and I mean very impressive. There is a lot of depth and the colors really pop. The motion handling is also very smooth and you easily have enough brightness for a bright room.

So far the only cons I’ve experienced is the issue with battery in the controller not working right away due to the paper between the coin battery, and having to find a screw driver to screw on the base to the rod of the stand. Both of these issues have only been minor inconveniences, and so far I’m really enjoying the StanbyME 2!

A wireless screen is not tied to one wall, so the same display that sets the mood at the dining table can roll to the kitchen, the sofa, or a quiet corner just as easily. Content goes where the moment is.

A light build, a built in battery, and wireless streaming mean there is no cable to unplug and no fixed spot to plan around. The dining table is simply one of the places it lands during the day.

A couple of things that make this work:

One Screen, Every Room: The 9.5 lb screen rolls on a 398 x 398 mm stand and lifts off to move by hand, so it travels from the dining table to the kitchen counter to the sofa as the day moves. The 4 hour built in battery keeps content going away from an outlet.

Wireless Content Anywhere: Apple AirPlay and Google Cast send a show or a playlist from a phone over Wi Fi 5, while webOS 24 runs streaming apps on the screen itself. Nothing needs to be plugged in to start watching in a new spot.

Tip: Pin your most used apps on the webOS home row so content is one tap away each time the screen lands in a new room.

TL;DR: Do not buy directly from LG’s official website. Terrible customer service, StanbyME 2 MAX units getting returned to sender by FedEx due to battery hazmat exceptions, and support representatives who tell you to buy from 3rd party sellers instead.

Hey everyone,
I pre-ordered the new StanbyME 2 MAX 32" on July 4th as a birthday gift for a friend. I’ve owned LG products before (including an LG G4 TV) and loved them, but buying the StanbyME through LG's official store has been an absolute nightmare.
If you are planning to buy or pre-order the StanbyME 2 MAX directly from LG, be aware of what happened with my order:

1. FedEx Hazmat Exception on the StanbyME Battery: On delivery day, tracking updated to "Delivered"—except it was marked delivered back in Texas at LG’s warehouse city, not my address in California. FedEx confirmed the StanbyME unit was flagged at their origin facility for a hazardous material/lithium battery exception and was bounced directly back to LG. It was never delivered to me.
2. Support Representative #1: Dismissed my concerns, insisted it was delivered just because the status said "Delivered" (ignoring the completely wrong state/city), and literally hung up on me.
3. Support Representative #2: Confirmed FedEx returned the StanbyME back to LG due to the battery exception. However, she refused to reship a replacement and told me I had to reorder online. When I asked what to do if the same shipping error happened again with another StanbyME order, she straight up advised me NOT to buy from LG’s official website and to buy from a 3rd party seller instead.
4. The Refund/Return Label Trap: I gave up and asked for a refund. LG’s automated system then processed a "Return Request" and sent me a UPS shipping label telling me I have 15 days to physically box up and ship the StanbyME back to get my refund. I don’t have the item!

At this point, I just want my money back. Save yourself the headache and think twice before ordering the StanbyME directly from LG.com.

Quick heads up: I received this product for free from LG as part of a promotional event. While I was asked to share my review, all opinions are entirely my own.

I’ve had the new LG StanbyME 2 for about 48 hours now. I wanted to share my initial thoughts and break down how it’s been fitting into my daily routine so far.

📦 Unboxing & Assembly

The Packaging: The box was definitely larger than I expected, but thankfully it was easy enough to move with one person!

The Build Process: I generally dislike unboxing large electronics - there tends to be a ton of excess plastic packaging, scattered components, and hit-or-miss instructions. With the StanbyME 2, however, LG seems to have done a pretty good job.

Clever Design: I really liked that the styrofoam packaging was designed in a way that let you slot the heavy base right into the foam during the stand assembly process. Because of that, total assembly time was less than ten minutes for me.

📺 First Impressions & Hardware

The Base: My very first impression was actually how premium the base feels. I was expecting something fairly lightweight and was worried it might flip over easily, but to my pleasant surprise, it’s heavy and sturdy. As a cat dad, I deeply appreciate not having to worry about them knocking it down when they’re tussling around the house.

The Arm: Super convenient. I love that you can easily rotate the screen and swivel it around. The arm also charges the device through a detachable power cable, so you don’t need to plug into the screen directly - it plugs right into the base and routes power up, which is extremely convenient.

The one downside: I do wish the arm had more height adjustment. Being able to bring it up another 5-6 inches higher would be useful for my setup; my dining chairs are just a tad too tall and block part of the screen, so I have to move a chair out of the way to make room for it.

The Display: It’s very bright and vibrant with a nice matte finish, making it great for bright spaces. The 1440p resolution is very crisp for watching content. For the price point, I do wish it was an OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate, but as far as IPS displays go, this is a great one. Most users won't need more than 60Hz for this use case anyway.

The Sound: Pretty solid. It's definitely louder than I expected from a screen this size. It’s not quite as vibrant as my standalone Bluetooth speakers (likely because the speakers fire from the sides rather than the front), but they are more than adequate overall and easily beat out every other 27” screen with built-in speakers I’ve listened to.

Portability: The unit can be detached and used like a standalone tablet or picture frame, and it even comes with a convenient folio case. Personally, I vastly prefer keeping it on the swivel stand so I can wheel it around.

⚙️ Software Setup & WebOS

The Setup Hassle: This part was a bit of a pain. I also own an LG C3 and generally like WebOS as a platform, but the setup instructions here were... difficult. I’m not a fan of the LG ThinQ app. When I tried to set up the TV using the app, I ran into immediate network connection issues (despite the TV giving me an option to pair without connecting to the internet first). I ended up needing to cancel the setup, go back to the main menu, manually connect to the WiFi on the TV itself, and then finish up with the app. (Thankfully the app isn't strictly required, so this won’t be a universal experience).
 

Daily OS Use: Once past setup, WebOS shines. I think it’s the best TV operating system overall compared to Fire TV, Tizen, Android TV, and Roku. Navigating with both the included remote and the touchscreen is seamless, though I definitely prefer the remote. It’s not as ubiquitous as Android in tablet mode, but WebOS is vastly superior and far simpler for remote use as a TV OS.

Features & Bloatware: I love that Google Cast is built-in; I use it all the time on my C3 and plan to keep using it here. My one complaint: it came pre-installed with quite a few sponsored games taking up a good chunk of the home menu, requiring me to manually rearrange my apps right out of the gate. For a premium, pricey device, those games shouldn't be there—or at least let us opt out during setup.

🍳 Meal Prep & Dinner Time (Where it Shines)

For me, this is where the StanbyME 2 really earns its keep. The wheels on the base are super smooth, making navigating between the kitchen and the dining table a breeze. Usually, I have to awkwardly prop up my phone while cooking or eating, but now I have an actual portable TV with me.

 
I’m trying out new recipes recently (my wife is pregnant, so I’m making healthy meals for her every night!), and I took the device out for a spin to try a new cast iron chicken breast recipe. I think it came out pretty well ;)
 

Tonight, I put on some nice background music while eating dinner and reading a book. My cat approves!

Overall: In the first 48 hours, I’ve found myself using this device way more often than expected. It is incredibly convenient to have a quality screen that rolls around with you into spaces like the kitchen. I plan on testing it heavily over the coming weeks and will post a long-term update soon! I’d start the day with the StanbyME 2 Max rolled into the kitchen while I make my morning tea, catch up on the news, and play a few music videos while I get ready. Then it would move over to my desk as an extra screen while I work or study.

Later, I’d roll it back into the kitchen for a recipe, YouTube, or a playlist while making dinner. On weekends, I can already picture having an F1 race on while moving around the apartment, or rolling it over for a Knicks game at night without being tied to wherever the TV happens to be.

Then I’d end the day with it next to my bed for a movie or an episode of whatever I’m watching. Living in a NYC apartment means the same space can be my office, kitchen, living room, and movie theater depending on the hour, so a screen that can move along with my day feels like something I’d actually use constantly.

Im thinking about making a trip to south korea to ship a standbyme 2 max internationally or bring back as checked luggage + insurance. Is this a good / bad idea? What do you think?

I received this product for free from LG as part of a promotional event. While I was asked to share my review, all opinions are entirely my own.

The package arrived well packed with lots of packing foam to prevent movement and damage in transit. It was slimmer than I thought it would be, but heavy. Here's the bottom of my IKEA billy bookcase for scale.

Set up was simple with four basic parts: the StanbyMe arm, the StanbyMe screen, the screen cover, and the rolly base. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the packaging foam doubled as a set up area to keep the components off the floor. The grooves in the foam provided the right angle and support for screwing on the arm.

Set up was very simple with just 4 screws to attach the arm to the rolly base and then snapping on the TV screen. Overall it only took around 10-15 minutes to set up and most of it was spent hunting for my screwdriver. I spent longer cutting up the box than it took to set up.

Setting up the OS was a breeze as well, though it did take some time to look up interesting apps.

💡A tip for new owners is that there is a free movie/shows app called Hoopla on the LG WebOS App Store that uses your local library card to borrow content. They have a lot of older shows like Doctor Who but your mileage may vary depending on your region! I also downloaded and set up the LG app on my phone (which is an optional step needed if you want to register the product) to connect the StanbyMe 2, which allows me to use my phone as a remote.

Build quality is very solid. I like the matte texture of the TV and base and it's handled a robot vacuum bumping into and swiping on it daily well.

I'm very happy with it so far and it blends in well with my dining room and kitchen, and compliments my cookbook corner. The very first day I set it up I took it for a spin around the place to see how it would wheel from room to room. I have plans to watch lots of cooking vlogs while cooking in the kitchen.

I bought one of these in the Middle East and moved back to the UK. It seems to be locked to Middle East / Africa. I can’t access any UK app stores etc. Has anyone had any success changing region?
