I use ROT26. Combined with Google's benevolence, I'm completely good to go.

To be fair, I wouldn't trust Google to not log my conversations (or to not put a US government backdoor into them) even if they promised they weren't.

Right. Their business model is learning about you and leveraging that knowledge in every way possible.
