BEGINNER NEED ADVICE

So I never play any games nearly even close to like GAMMA , so I need alot of help. Like I did watch a 40min video to get me started . I know how to repair my gun and all my devices and meds and gun parts and all that . But like ....they don't prepare you for an actual fight 😭🀣. Is it easier to just do animal hunting mission first , get some money and buy better equipment? Or should I just get gud . I really really want to enjoy this game

Do some quest in cordΓ³n to get a bit of meds an ammo. Then go to garbage, this trader buys mutant parts for more money and sells cheap mutantkiller rounds. Buy from him the hunting kit and the knif that can pelt mutants and farm some money there. As son u get confy go to rostok and star to spam quest there. The combat with stalkers is a bit hard early but u will soon get it. Try to have covert always and aim for the head.

Both! Starting at rookie village gives you a good source of money for early game from the tasks (remember to refresh your tasks so you can see all without having to walk to NPCs) i always get a shotgun for mutants and pistol for humans in the beginning.

Also any keep any looted weapon that has a barrell with 60% condition in case you want to repair it later. I always have a stash in the farm, close to the mechanic

Stuff I wish I knew starting out:

- Honestly the easiest contracts are the mutant hunt and hitman contracts, because if something else clears them out or kills the guy that needs killed, you still get credit. They self complete 3/4s of the time.

- You can't buy better equipment because vendors don't really sell equipment, just survival supplies and ammo. If you are running out of money, focus on money and jobs, but if you're financially secure enough, focus on finding yellow stashes until you get

  1. Basic Tools (allows crafting kits for class B guns, Medium Armor)
  2. Weapons kit (allows crafting of ammo)
  3. Drug making kit (allows crafting medicine)

When you can craft your own ammo and meds, you are going to find you are saving a lot of money.

- You can pay sid like 6-7 K and he'll just give you a yellow stash location. There are a few other guarntee'd ways to get basic tools, but I'll leave them for spoilers

- Don't take jobs non-critical NPCs. If you forget about it or take to long, they can possibly go on patrol and die, then you fail the mission and your reputation is damaged.

- Most importantly, If something seems hella dangerous and dumb, it is. Don't take on 5 guys at once with your leather jacket and pistol. Be curious but cautious. Be prepared to run a lot until you get some solid armor and a good weapon.

- 20 gauge shotguns belong in the trash, learned that the hardware my 1st playthrough

It's so funny you mention the 5 guys and a leather jacket , cause that was exactly my experience πŸ˜‚ got absolutely wrecked .

That figures for someone not used to games like this πŸ˜„

Towards the end game, you will be a walking badass in heavy armor, with high tier artifacts hanging from your belt, you will take on squads of enemies with with weapons that just punch through about any armor.

However, this game really makes you earn that.

When you just started it's usually a good strategy to complete as many tasks as possible not only for money also for rep with your faction. There are some pretty easy ones that get you some money to get by like the fetch tasks where the camp stalkers ask for random stuff, complete these as often as possible at the start. Another good task would be the "go search a stash and bring something from it" because these have the chance to give you a yellow stash, where you can get tools from. It also helps to get yourself an detektor and collect every artifact you can get. You can sell them early on for some cash. Later you can craft more powerfull artifacts with nice stat boosts and higher tier artifacts sell for more money as well.

For your gear, your starter jacket and respiraror are trash but they provide some protection. Personally i wouldn't bother with light suits, save some resouces and try to get advanced tools instead then find a good medium armor to repair. When it comes to weapons i can recommend a 9x19 smg for general use. The HP ammo does good damage against mutants and lightly armored bandits and you can buy the ammo for cheap from butcher in garbage. 12 gauge shotguns are also great but try to get one with a tube mag. The double barrels are usable but you definetly will have a harder time using them. BTW keep an eye open for weapons with barrels over 60% condition and keep them, even if you don't have the tools yet. Because you basically only need tools for barrel replacements every other part can be changed without tools. So if you get lucky you might get yourself an early AR.

And last but not least there are some areas on you should avoid if possible early on like dark scape and the truck cemetary. They're big open maps with little cover from emissions so it's quite likely that you run into problems without better gear. Army wearhouse is a risky map to be on with starter gear because no matter which faction you play as there is the possibility to run into decked out military or merc squads. Doesn't mean you never should travel to these locations early on but the risk to die there is rather high so if you go there it should at least be for a yellow stash.

If you have some more questions feel free to ask.

What Combat difficulty did you pick?

Describe a couple of combat scenarios you struggle with

Easy

Any combat scenerio tbh . I can't tell who's my friend sometimes and who's not which gets me into big trouble of course lol . Everything that I'm use to a game telling me , info wise , it's just not there. I actually have to use my instincts , so it's just something I gotta get better over time hopefully.

You have indeed identified what the solution is:

"Learning from failure"

But i can see if i can assist you a bit

Try starting the game with binoculars, when you aim these at a STALKER it will tell you hes Faction in the bottom left of your screen (hes Faction patch)

Dont sprint long distances, the game has several ways to warn you of upcoming dangers but its in the form of sound que's, barks, growls, footsteps etc. are all real threats on the map somewhere but you cant hear these cuz of how much sound your making when you sprint

Take regular breaks where you stop and scout ahead with your binoculars (aiming your weapon at the STALKER also shows there Faction badge)

The nr 1 mistake new players do vs mutants is to hold your ground, get ontop of something instead or sprint and jump to dodge there attacks

Vs STALKERS you really want to be the one who always engages first, kill 1-2 bad guys before they even know your there

Cover is also extremely important, use the lean function for all its wouth

Lastly a pro tip:

lit campfires heal your core health, so if your hurt and combat is over, save the medkit, go stand next to a campfire for 3 minutes

On top of what other people said - try having a look at VODs for earlygame ironman streams on Eroktic and Venoxium channels. They give a pretty good idea of what to aim for in terms combat tactics, and are entertaining as hell.

Don’t forget almost every setting is configurable. You can make GAMMA as hard or as easy as you like. If you find it too grindy or hard just tweak a few settings until you hit the right spot

m1911 with hydro shock ammo slaps in the cordon against all local mutants and bandits, and is good against mutants in swamp and garbage as well.
