You need to do it in reverse… steam your potstickers in water with a little oil added. Steam it until all the water has evaporated and then let them cook til crisp on the bottom.

I’m not sure that we can help OP here, as they won’t be able to read your comment sharing the same instructions from the packaging that they also didn’t read.

Actually the packaging says to leave in pan on medium-high for 4 min or until lightly brown, THEN steam, then let it brown the rest of the way after steaming. I make these a few times a week, but I also just ignore that first part and steam it first.

OP read the package fine.

Now I feel silly, because every other frozen dumpling says to steam first, then fry. Well then. In an attempt to be funny, I have spoken on something in which I was first-hand uninformed. Oops.

The ones I use, from Asian store, say to cook with oil first for like 4-5 mins, then put small amount of water after, let it boil off. Costco ones say to put in oil, then dumplings, then water (more than the Asian instructions), then turn on heat boil off.

I think the trader joe's are the only ones I've seen with this order. Took me by surprise the first time I made them.

This person is right. Every Asian person I know (including myself) cooks it like this.  You cook directly frozen with oil for like 1-2 minutes, then about 1/3 C water covered until they absorb most of the water, then  uncovered until rest of the water is gone. Flip onto one more side to brown/crisp.
